Default My new digital homebrew camera

Here is my new digital homebrew game camera. I used a 2MP Olympus D380 with a PixController universal board and a Pelican 1060 case from Whitetail Supply. Tominator and I just hung this thing out in the woods Saturday morning, so hopefully soon we will be seeing some good pics.

I have this funny feeling that this won't be the only camera I will be building......

I'll guartee you that you're right!

    Good job.

What size hole did you use for the flash? It looks small. And did you use a flash enhancer or just glass?

    Bond,

I think it was 1/2" hole, then filed out a bit. It probably could stand to be a bit bigger, we'll see how it works. I used glass for the flash and the lens, then a freshnel (sp?) lens for the motion sensor. It was a basic kit from PixController.

Yep, we put it on a heavily used trail that I saw deer on all the time last year, and it appears they're still using it.

Tom tested it out, and after a quick panic about flash bleed (cam took a pic while Tom was opening the case, thus the bleed), it took 3 excellent pics of Tom on the trail.

I wanted to put on my clown suit, and moon the camera, but Tom wouldn't let me.

I can see how this is going to be addicting. Digital is the way to go, instantaneous feedback.

That thing is sweet. What did that set you back? I know pelican Cases are expensive. I have one that cost $150

All in all, it was about $175 and some change. Sounds like there are some other sensors out there that aren't quite as expensive that are just as good. Maybe the next one I build.....

Nice work... You may want to add external power to the camera to allow for extra time in the field. You should get close to 2 weeks with the internal camera batteries. If you set the camera as an on/off camera you may get a little more time. Try a search on Hagshouse and you'll find plenty of information for this camera... again, nice work and can't wait to see some pics..

Nice job. I have two with the D380's and they are alot bigger. I like how small you kept it. I started out to build only one. I now have 4 and I will add more next spring. Its hunting season now so I dont have time. Good luck. Show us some game pics.
