Genetics?? What do you think, is this buck young and have potential, or bad genetics and needs to be eliminated?? I can't tell for sure. My brother in-law got it on his stealth cam last week.

boy that is a big bodied deer has to be more than 1.5 years old i would probably cull him out!
I told my brother in-law he is gonna be heavy come the rut time. He's gettin' there now. Good looking healthy buck, but too bad about the antlers. He'd be awesome if he had double the points! I was just curious if this was a case of bad genetics or if he was young and headed for a trophy case down the road.
It looks like he needs to be culled to me. A deer that size has good nutrition but I don't see the antler growth.
My opinion is that he's just a young buck, with good body-size genetics, but high-basket-rack genetics for antlers. He looks to be 11/2 yr old. He my just turn out to be a really nice high-racker in a couple of years, but the question is "Do you want that high-rack gene floating around.?"
I like high or wide racks. They're all kind of unique in their own way and add character to the bucks.
If your aim is to go for wide high racks in your herd, then by all means take him out, but If you don't mind a tight basket rack gene , leave him.![]()

I agree with Sherm. Just young with lots-O-potential.
look at the size of the neck! Its small. Also you see no loose skin or color os the skin fadeing. I say hes young and needs a couple years to mature.
I would wait AT LEAST one year. That deer is no older than 1 1/2. Give him a chance before you cull him.....![]()

Its not up to me...its my brother in-laws property and I don't hunt there. I do agree though, I'd like to see him in 2 years!
Don't shoot.
