    Default anyone familiar with sony\'s

    video editing software(picture package)?

Got this new sony handycam(dcr-hc96), went with the dvc over the dvd due to suggestions for ease of ability to edit on a pc. Loaded the software that came with the camera and am having some problems. Thought I could burn video to a dvd, the software wont let me do that. Does not give that option, does however offer to burn to a cd-r, is there any other software that allows you to just copy from the tape to a dvd, or am I going to have to burn to my hard drive and then copy to a dvd? Also when viewing on the viewer is it normal to have a loss in video quality? Should I be looking at using a different software for my editing or copying?

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any experience with the sony software, but I use Pinnacle a lot.

I'm pretty sure you have to capture the video onto the hard drive and then burn the DVD. I think that's how it is will all programs.

What viewer are you refering to? Is it just a preview screen in the program or what? The preview might have some quality loss but when you play the actual video on your computer or tv(after you burn) it should be full quality.

I'm sure that software will do what you want it to do. You probably don't need to buy a different one unless it's giving you problems. If you do think you need a different program, I'd recommend Pinnacle Studio. Studio 10 is out right now for $100 or so but you can find Studio 9 for around $30.

Thanks Bond. I have recorded a small clip from tape to my hard drive with the picture package software. Have watched it back in windows media player 10, when I go to full screen the quality is not too good. Have not found where there is an option to burn to dvd in the media player or the sony software, but there is an option to burn a cd. Have a program called roxio dvd that I tried to use, I did manage to label a new dvd, but it wouldnt burn the video file to dvd either. Have only had this new computer a little over a week, probably something simple I just havent figured out yet.

As near as I can tell Picture Package will not burn DVD's, only cd's. You need a DVD authoring program and/or encoding program. The raw digital footage (avi) must be encoded to MPEG2 format which is what DVD's are. I use Pinnacle Studio that both authors and encodes, but there are many out there.

Thanks. Will do some more checking on the software that is loaded on here, will be learning for a while. If I cannot figure it out, will have to see if I can find the pinnacle studio.
