    Default how old?

This is a new buck on our land.

We'll let him walk this year, but how old do you think he is?

Blocky body says 3.5 year old to me despite the antler size.

I thought he's gotta be 2.5, but those aren't much for horns for as nice as his body is.

Don't judge a deers age by the antlers. Never look at the antlers when trying to figure out how old they are. The body shape tells me he is a 3.5 year old. He is too blocky in the back end. The body is not tapered, but is almost rectangular going back. Most often a 2.5 year old will taper up into the hind end a bit and not look quite so blocky.

Another thing to look at is the depth in the chest as it goes back. Here is a link to field judging deer that may help if you are interested tndeer.com.
