    Default Give my your opinion

Below are 2 pictures. They are the same except one has been cropped and enlarged. I would like to know which one you like the best, how to make it a better picture, etc.. I really have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to photography I would like to learn a little.

If there was a way to photoshop the pic and get the top of the dogs head as bright as the rest of it the pic. might be better. I don't think you could get the pooch to sit still with the sun it it's eyes.

    Good picture otherwise.

Of the 2 photos I prefer the the second where the photo has been cropped and blown up.

First thing that would make either of the photos better is moving slightly so that the long piece of grass isn't going through the dogs nose. I retouched the photo and took it out.

Also instead of having the dog centered, compose the picture in thirds. Giving space in the direction the dog is looking gives the photo more depth (don't know if thats the right word). Also having the dogs head in one of the thirds helps.

The crop that I did also drops out the highlighted area on the ground behind the dog, leaving the dog kind of spotlighted against the shadowed ground.

Only other nitpicky thing i have is i don't like the shadow across the dogs face.

Heres some nice articles about photo composition if you want to check them out... HERE

when taking pictures...make sure you use the rule of thirds...this allows the subject to not be right ni the center of the picture and creates an interest.

need2hunt's version creates an interst because it really makes you wonder what the dog is looking at.

the shadow across the eyes is a little distracting but for a beginner this is a great start.

One of the best things you can do, is use your flash! YES!!! Even when the sun is out and shinning bright! But it is best on an overcast day. This will make your pictures have more of a three dimensional look! Just synchronize your flash shutter speed.

You can also use APERTURE PRIORITY. Choose a wide aperture(smaller number on the dial), focus on the subject only, use the rule of thirds, all the while keeping your focus setting on the dog. Take the shot! This will keep the dog in sharp focus, while blurring the background. Making the people focus their attention immediately on the dog!

Here is what I would do about that shadow!

An overall brightness move just kills the entire picture, this is where the flash would have come handy to lighten the dogs face. BTW, I also applied more sharpness on both of these photos.

To be perfectly honest here, after looking at all the pics, I like John's first version of the pic here. Slightly brightened and showing the background which in my opinion is beautiful. Might still offset it a little by cropping it to move the dog a little off center, but keep that background in the pic.
