Good Wildlife Camera??

Does anyone know of a camera that would be good for taking pictures of wildlife? Id like a digital camera, but digital zoom stinks. Are there any digital cameras that have a manual zoom like some old cameras. Now if you know of a good digital camera that has good digital zoom, it will be an option. This obviously doesn't have to be classified a "Wildlife" camera.

I just want to stat being able to take pictures of some of the really good bucks I have been passing up the last few years. Have proof I guess. I just know my normal digital camera just wont cut it especially if they are a good distance away.

I asked the same question to our Tech. guy here at school where I teach. He also shots weddings etc. I told him I want to take pictures out to a 100 yards or so and be able to see the rack/beard. I told him around 300 dollars. He suggest the Fugifilm S5200.

I have a couple Olympus cameras that have 10X optical zoom. They work great for what you are wanting. The older one is an Olympus C-740, but is no longer sold; the newer one is an Olympus SP-500UZ.
There are some other 10X and 12X digital cameras out there that are probably just as good.

Depends on how much you are looking to spend really and what exactly it is that you want. Digital slr's are capable of using multiple lenses just like the old 35 mm slr's. Sony has gotten into the market, think their cams are based off of the minolta digital slr's and use the minolta lenses. If a dslr is more than you want to spend, there are an awful lot of good choices out there in point and shoots from several manufacturers. Canon and sony both make good ones with high enough resolution coupled with a good optical zoom, they are capable of taking good quality pics.

Definuitely after speaking with my brother, I dont really need an DSLR. I think a good 5MP or higher with Optical zoom should be just great. Considering the one I have used over the last couple of years for other stuff has a digital zoom and is probably only 3MP or lower.

The Kodak V530 is the toughest camera on the market and it takes great pictures. its always packed with me on all my trips and it takes a beating.

I am actually going to buy another one just to have in my truck at all times.

I would suggest one of the 12X super zoom cameras with image stabilization. I have a panansonic fz-7 and have had good luck with it. www.dpreview.com has reviews of most of the newer cameras on the market. Many can be had for around $300 as well.
