    Default Here\'s a project!!!

Was just thinking wouldn't it be cool to find an active bear den and set a trail cam up at the entrance to catch the sow and cubs when they first come out in the spring. I'm gonna check some old ones out this winter and see if any are getting used again.

Sounds like a cool idea. Just make sure your camera is well hidden and unscented. You may come back to a half eaten camera. lol

Sounds like a neat plan. I have thought of doing that too, but there is one small problem here...LOL. The bears here (down at sea level) don't go into a full hybernation state. They just get lazy and cuttle up in their dens for short spurts, but they also get up from time to time throughout our mild winter to browse around.
I know where a few dens are myself, but I don't think I want to get close enough to hang a camera

I walked in on a den a few years ago, in January, only to be confronted by a huge droopy-eyed head sticking out of a large hole in an up-rooted tree at about 10 ft away.
I thought of that cartoon all of a sudden, where snagglepuss says "EXIT...STAGE RIGHT" and I did the same ..LOL

    Go for it

I shot a big cinnamon nuisance bear a few years ago-tracked him to his den then shot him from the hip when he came out-now that was fun lol. A bear den looks just like a big hole under a fallen tree or in a brush pile-in winter there'd be frost around it from their breath I'd imagine.

Huntin'sonovagun is sure awful free with throwing out the "do it...do it's", when he's not the one screwing with an active bear den!

Oneida and the evidance isn't too visible on a bear no wonder they're grouchy lol. The average red squirrel would put one to shame. There's tons of bear den tales up in our neck of the woods.

That'd be cool to see. Make sure you set up a pic-in-ic basket for them.

My fiance shot his last bear as it was coming out of its den....it was a hole in the side of a small hill, a small tunnel went back about 5-6 feet and then turned sharply to wear he would have spent the winter (guessing a wind block sort of thing) It was pretty cool to see how they make them.
