Default A Day In A Life of a Spring Robin

I have a pair of Robins that return every spring to build thier nest in my Flowering Crab Tree and raise thier family. I thought I would cronical this event with 1 or 2 pictures daily to share with you good folks. I get to enjoy this on a daily basis so I thought you folks would enjoy it also ...

I hope you all will enjoy this as much as me and my wife (Tammy) do ..

Here's 2 picures of the nest building efforts less than a week in..

I'll try to get a pic of MOM and DAD in the building process, but it's a little tricky ,, I don't want to run them off by harrassing them...

TRAILCAM! Perfect excuse to get one Luke.

Cool idea by the way. Got a few robins nests here out in the shed above the horse stalls.

I tried that excuse already with the woman of the house.. I bet you can guess the answer to that one already ...

Wish I had the funds for one, it would be a neat spy tool for those wary eye's the birds seem to have...

Yeah a trail camera would be pretty neat, but oh well I guess. I can't wait to see how this progresses.

Tell her trailcam or you'll pick up smoking again to deal with the sress.

Cool pics. I remember yours from last year. I have a brood of 4 about ready to fledge. I'll try and get a pic.

LOL. With all the money you are saving Luke, seems you could persuade her, cams are not that expensive.

Actually have one pretty blue egg in one nest in our shed. Have not been seeing the robins around too much here lately though.

At the moment I have 1 Robin's nest that is being built, and 2 Baltimore Oriole nests that are completely built... It's just too bad that the Orioles built thier nest up high in the Popular tree's where they have extreme cover.... I also have 2 pairs of Blue Birds nesting in the houses my dad built over the winter...

This year I made sure to keep the Swallows out of the house's where I shoot my bow.... I'm not getting dive bombed this year...

Why I'll be, I sure did .. That should have been Poplar Tree ( Populus fastigiata) ..

But that still doesn't negate the fact your a teacher and should know better...

UPDATE,, there's not really much size difference in the nest itself so I'll leave it be for a couple of days and see what transpires.... Stay tuned...

I went out and checked on the Robins nest this afternoon 6/5/07 while mom was away... and this is what I found...

Quite unusual I would say to only find a single egg.... The female Robin hasn't been sitting the nest as I would expect her too with a egg in it,, I guess we'll have see what happens in the future...

Sure hope this nest isn't a dud...

I think most birds lay an egg a day until they are done laying then sit on them and incubate...at least that is what the chickens do...

It would appear you may be correct Ruth... I went out and inspected the nest again today (Weds.6/6/07) when I saw the female Robin leave the nest briefly and here's what I found...

I still haven't got close enough to take a picture of mom tending the nest, mainly this is because I don't want to harass her off the nest or even worse make her abandon it...

    More to come very soon...

The nest is looking almost complete! I wonder if she'll drop atleast 1 more egg before we wait for them to hatch.
