Default Tell me about my camera!

I am new to digital cameras and I got a new one for Christmas. I was hoping some of you could help me and tell me a little about it.

It's specs are 6.1 MP with a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 screen with video feed also. I can set it at 6.1 MP 4.0 MP 5.3 MP 3.1 MP and 1.8 MP. I as wondering what the best MP would be for taking pictures to post on the internet. Is this a decent camera??? It is made by Kodak.

a 6.1 MP digital camera is a really good camera. As far as taking pics just for posting the 1.8 MP setting is just fine. When you want to print pics the higher MP will give you better printing quality. The higher the MP the better large prints (like 8X10) will look.

The 3.1 setting will print great 4X7 prints but when you go larger you won't get quite as good quality.

I have a Kodak 7530 5.0 mp and love it. It takes very nice pics. I leave it on 5.0 all the time and resize them for posting. That way when I print up my pics they look the best they can.

You can always reduce the size of an image but you can't, (generally speaking) increase it. I would leave it at the highest setting and simply carry and extra card or two with me. Memory cards are very cheap, and take up virtually no space. I would not want to miss the opportunity to make an enlargement of a photo because I forgot to reset the "Image Size" on my camera.

As Bill said, shoot everything at the higher Megapixel setting, and get a bigger memory card. I made a mistake by trying to get more pics on one card and setting it at the lower megapixel. When I got a nice pic, I went to print a 8x10, it got nasty.

So now I shoot everything at the 6 or 12 megapixel setting! As for posting pics for the net I just reduce the size to a 4x6 and keep the resolution to 72 DPI. That way it wont take forever for the DIAL-UP people to load the web page!

Sounds like a really nice camera. Congratulations. Would suggest the same as Bill taking your pics at the higher resolutions and later reducing them.
