The velvet is coming off here guys.
These pictures didn't turn out too good. I had my camera on the wrong setting, but you can see his velvet hanging off.

Is that normal this time of the year Steve? Seems kind of early.

Interesting. I've read articles that say velvet falls off in September around here.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because you were there.
I also thought sept. for the velvet to come off
It definitely depends on area as to when.
Here the bucks are completely out of velvet by the end of Aug. Our season opens Aug 15th and if you don't get one before the end of Aug. your chances of getting one in velvet are really zero.
These deer also start dropping horns last week in December and by the end of January all have shed.

Ours usually dont get rid of their velvet until late september. In fact, i saw one still in velvet on October 14th last year.
I figure God only gave me so many sunrises, I might as well not miss one.

Wow. Seems early to me. Is it a stressful summer for the deer? Maybe that could be a cause for early shedding of the velvet? Around here they lose it usually the first week of Sept.
WOW...I've never seen bucks in hard horn here before mid August. It's usually around early September here for most of the older bucks. There are some older bucks that are still in velvet come October 1st here but it's rare. It's pretty common here to see young bucks in velvet in late Setember and into the 1st week of October.
