Digital vs. Film

I am not sure one way or the other. I have not tried both. Heck I haven't even tried my Stealth cam yet!
I see the best advantage to the digitals as being able to just download instead of film processing and the cost associated.

As for pic quality.
I would say that a film camera will always beat a digi pic in that, unless you have a seriuosly high pixel count like 5 meg or higher per pic which is about equal to a film pic, then its just a matter of what looks better to your eye for quality. JMO

Digitals are here to stay and for some very good reasons including speed to final image, reusability, and several advantages of digi over film emulsions. The key is to get whichever is best for your situation. You are not going to get great images from a $100-$200 digital camera. The electronics involved are simply too complex and expensive so comprimises are made in CCD resolution and lens quality. High end digital cameras can compete, and often times beat out similar images from film cams. Digital technology moves as quick as computer technology. Updates and improvements are continuous. My Nikon digital D-1's, (Not Game Cams), cost about $7000 each 3 years ago, without a lens. My new cams, which are Nikon D2H's are about half the price, faster, and have a larger CCD. One advantage of the digi over the film is that film becomes extremely brittle in the cold. Rewinding of film in a camera in the cold can also discharge static electricity that can spoil some if not all your images. In time, digis will be cheaper better and become the standard for many users.

I agree with you. I don't like the quality of the Cuddeback Cameras or the GameVue cams. They're only 1.3 megapixel (I think). 2 megapixel isn't bad (that's what I have for a game camera). But take a look at this pic taken from my 3.3 pegapixel (not trail cam).

This picture doesn't even do the camera justice. That's at about half the size you can blow it up to without losing quality.

I don't really think it is valid to compare all digitals against film. Some digitals (game cams) are clearly not designed for picture quality. Anything less than 2 or 3 MP and film will be clearly better most of the time.

I think a regular 35mm camera will beat a digital, in less you spend a good amount on a digital. Though i would rather have a digital because you can take the pictures you want, with a regular 35mm, you are stuck with what you take, and you have film cost and developing cost, just my 2 cents though. My fiance has a 2.0 MP Kodak and the pic quality is much better than a film camera, I still like film mainly because I like to have the physical pics to look at, but the way things are now you can download your digi pics and have them printed out.

Would love to have a digital cam for the convenience. Looked at the new stealth cam digital in cabelas and the price looks pretty good. I bet sams club and wal mart will be carrying them at a lot lower prices this summer. The cam is only 1.3 mega pixels thought and the quality of the pics would obviously not be as good as the film, but would be pretty cool to use the video features of the new stealth cam. May just have to get one.
