How about posting this in the POLITICAL room. Might get better results![]()
excellent class
Wish my school would get that.
Isn't it illegal to posess a firearm on school property unless you are a law enforcement officer. Seems contradictory to me. However, I don't think it should be the schools job to teach someone elses kid about gun safety, even if the parents don't agree/believe in guns. I guess if they have parental permission it's OK.

It is here. The class does sound like a good idea to me too though.
I know that in Wood Co. WV in the '70s all 7th grade went though a hunters safety class and had to shoot a .22 rifle and bow to pass for gym. They also so showed you just how much damage the guns could do. For $.10 you could shot a clay bird with a 20 ga. I had alot of fun in this class and one of the game wardens became a good friend of mine from this class.
I think that by teaching a kid how to use a gun right is going to go a long way in letting them know what a gun will do and alos how to keep a gun from becoming a statistic.
One thing I think was missed by some here is that it is a elective class. I wish they would have it in more schools.
Im not much into the pol & rel but I work in a school & think a firearm safety class would be an excellent class. It's all about education!!!There is no excuse for being stupid. If more people were educated we would have alot less accidents.
I take guns to schools alot, it is a pain to put on the dog and pony show to the school bord to let us but the kids make it worth the effort.
A few weeks ago, I was part of a SF A-Team that lade out for a High School JROTC class. I also do Civil War Living History and have had a real (Made in 1861) 12# Bronz canon and all my Cav. arms at the schools. I know we can do this in Ohio and WV and some friends do it in other states also.
Yes it is a big pain to get the school bord to let us but again, the kids make it worth it.
hey sluggo. it's o.k. to teach kids to put a rubber on a bananna, or sex ed, or how to get an abortion without the parents knowledge or permission. but to teach about evil guns...whoa. bad stuff? come on. i'd rather it take parental permission to teach sex ed.

Good point. Also, I suspect the shooting portions of the class take place off campus. Not too many schools these days have ranges on their property.
