    Default Karl Rove - Criminal?

So, Karl Rove is “in trouble” for leaking the name of a CIA operative to the press. Anyone interested in exactly how that came about? Well here it is.

Seems that Joseph (I couldn’t find a cookie in a Keebler factory) Wilson had just written his erroneous article for the NY Times on the Niger/yellow cake/Iraq WMD connection. Naturally, since he got the facts all wrong and was accusing the Whitehouse of making things up, Rove and several others decided to go on the offensive and let the public (through the press) know just how horrible a job Wilson did on his investigation. Matt Cooper, from the NY Times, contacted Rove for more information on Wilson as Rove was about to leave on vacation. During a two minute off the record conversation with Cooper, Rove made a statement that neither Vice President Dick Cheney nor CIA Director George Tenet had picked Wilson for the trip; "it was, Karl Rove said, Wilson’s wife, who apparently works at the agency on WMD issues who authorized the trip." So there you have it. From that the reporter deduced that Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame worked for the Central Intelligence Agency.

Never mind that the real wrong doers here are Wilson and Plame, the press and the Democrats are after Rove’s scalp.

BTW – According to an Amicus Brief filed in the case by the NY Times, Washington Post and 29 other news agencies, no laws were broken by Rove’s actions.

    YES!!

Seriously though, disclosing the name of an active, undercover CIA operative is illegal and a breach of national security. Whether or not the interview was off the record or not is a matter of opinion between Rove and the reporters, me personally, I would think Rove would be smart enough to know that "off the record" is a joke. If Rove actually leaked the name word for word, he should be fired, forced to resign, and jailed. If the reporters made the deduction and printed the name without the actual name from Rove, then they are at fault. But, Rove did make a mistake, he should never have even gotten close to disclosing her name, or her husbands name for them to make the deduction if that is what happened.

The person that posted directly above me is a CIA operative.

There, I did not say his name!

And here all this time I thought he was a KGB operative!

Must be a double spy! I will disavow any knowledge of him, if asked by a reporter. I implore the rest of you to do the same.

Hold on a moment. Either I've missed something here, or someone is assuming facts not in evidence. So, someone, somewhere please tell me who has said that Valerie Plame was an undercover CIA agent ... other, that is, than the media and her husband Joe Wilson? Did Rove come out and say she was an undercover CIA agent? No he didn’t, the media and Wilson did.

One key provision of the law Rove is alleged to have broken states that to be a covert agent, a person must have been doing work in the field sometime in the last 5 years. It turns out Valerie Plame may have already been ousted over a decade ago by Aldrich Ames.

Regardless, she was brought back to the states and given a desk job at the CIA. Apparently she also came and went in public. So even if Rove had named her, he wouldn't have broken the law.

All this boils down to is a trophy hunt for a top Bush aid.

What I wonder is, there's still nobody that knows who the New York Times' Judith Miller is protecting by sitting in prison.

Well heck, it all makes sense now. I just found out that Wilson has been a Democrat activist for many years. He endorsed and donated money to the Kerry campaign and is quoted as saying "I would never vote for a Republican." Looks like it's going to turn out to be just another partisan witch hunt.

And lets not forget that Wilson now has a book out - wonders never cease to amaze on what folks will do to sell a book.

And now it turns out that Rove first heard about Plame's working for the CIA from....Drun roll please....A member of the PRESS!

What a complete non-issue this is turning out to be.

Yeah! We were undoubtedly "Jerry Springered" during the Clinton administration.

The Bush administration is like a breath of fresh air in comparison.

The only difference between the two administrations is the Bush admin is adept at not getting caught. We would probably all freak if we knew what goes on behind closed doors up there. I just got done reading an article about Karl Rove, it seems he has gotten in hot water before about leaking info during a campaign, in particular, a campaign where he was running for the position of president of the college republicans, the person who investigated the allegations, George HW Bush when he was head of the RNC, Karl Rove didn't become head of the college republicans, Bush hired him. I guess thats where Junior got his policy of instead of punishing people who make a mistake, you promote them!!
