    Default State of the Union

I figured I would come on here in the morning and already see a thread started on the speech last night. I guess ya'll were waiting for me to kick it off huh? I didn't watch it last night because I had to work but saw clips on the news last night and this morning and just finished reading the transcript. Overall, I think it was one of his better speeches since taking office and was more of a State of the Union speech than a State of Iraq speech was last year. How many of you know that Cindy Sheehan was there? She got a ticket from a Congresswoman from California, she got kicked out before the speech even started because she was hiding a t-shirt that protested the war. While I agree that she has a right to protest anything she wants, she is going a little overboard at this point and it's getting a little old. Regardless of what your views are, you don't go into the US Capitol and stage a protest of sorts. Someone at least needs to teach her some manners. I was also disappointed at the behavior of the Democrats on their side of the aisle. I understand that for the most part they were probably instructed when and when not to clap, but someone said that Hillary was chewing gum during the speech while the cameras were on her and when Bush mentioned how Congress failed to pass any legislation regarding Social Security she stood up and clapped like the Seahawks just won the Super Bowl. I'm just getting tired of the partisanship on both sides of the aisle. There is a common ground somewhere, both sides need to compromise on certain issues.

I agree that it was a good speach. As for Ms. Sheehan and the unnamed congresswoman who invited her............................................... ..they continue to show no class and dishonor themselves and her sons sacrifice.

Mrs. Bill Clinton showed her usual lack of class and God help us if a bunch of idiots ever vote her into the White House.

Hillary did stand up and clap about not passing the SS bill last year. On the other hand Bush laid the smack down when he said "Since you didn't pass my SS reform bill now we have a major problem" then the Republicans stood up and cheered.

I went back and looked it up. It was Lynn Woolsey who gave her the ticket to the speech.

I was able to watch most of President Bush's speech last night. The speech HIT the right buttons!

However, the partisanship being deomnstrated (when to stand or not stand) has always been part of these State of the Union speeches as long as I can remember. So that was not a big surprise, nor was the blatant disrespect demonstrated by Hillary, Kerry, and Kennedy. They just don't stop!

Ole Cindy didn't look too happy coming out of the jail house.... AGAIN! She compiling quite a RAP SHEET!

I missed the speech as well, but I have faith in my comander in chief. As far the the left goes... they are spiralling(sp) out of control in their rants and rage. I have not dseen such hatred and devoted slander against one president in my life, granted I am only 29, but wow. Someday I hope to see both parties work together and put the Coutry's best interests first instead of some political referendum.

Well, I got to watch the entire speech in my Congress and the Presidency class just a little bit ago so it was nice to see the whole thing and not just little snippets. I still say it was probably Bush's best speech since he took office, and I got to see a little more of how certain members acted. It looked like Kerry was reading something at some point. While I agree that the partisanship displayed is nothing new, I can remember more than a few times when Clinton was speaking how half of the aisle would stand and the other half would stay seated. As far as hatred and devoted slander, Clinton took more than his fair share while in office, that cannot be denied. But there is a certain level of respect and decorum that should be adhered to while at a State of the Union in the presence of the president. Sad to say that some members of the democratic party have let partisan bickering shape how they act.

I was a little taken aback by Bush's statement about passing a line item veto, if memory serves, a line item veto was passed during the Clinton Admin but was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Every president since Washington has wanted a line item veto and Clinton was the only one that had one if memory serves until it was abolished by the Supreme Court.

As usual, there was a call for bipartisanship in congress. Bipartisanship will only occur unless both sides can agree on a middle ground, and both parties are guilty of not wanting to give an inch when debating legislation.

I agree that Pesident Clinton, recieved a certain amount of guff, However HE WAS caught in sex scandal and LIED under oath about it. What president Bush is experiencing goes a bit farther, I know that there are those that feel he lied about wmd's in Iraq and I believe that we have beat that horse to death, but every time something in Washington happens, it is spun in some way to bring discredit to my Comander in Chief. Here are a few wise words: "If by age 18 you are not liberal, you have no heart, and by age 30 if you are not conservative, you have no brain."

I too watched the speech and was impressed with "OUR" President. I think the left showed little class in acknowledging our President. The total lack of respect has filtered down through to society as a whole.

People wonder why some (and I am not saying all) teenagers and young adults show little respect towards things like: Authority, the Flag, Adults, Teachers. They are following the lead of the disrespectful left as seen on TV last night.

I don't want this to turn into a how Clinton was treated when he was president thread. But the Lewinsky thing didn't occur until the end of his presidency. He took a lot of crap before that also based on his political beliefs which is basically what is happening today with Bush. America needs a truly moderate president who will appeal to all sides of the aisle and the majority of Americans who are moderate.

It will never happen, there are too many issues that sepparate the two major political parties, Issues that both feel equally strong about. I am not trying to bash here, but most of what I hear coming from the left is accusatory and demeaning. I am sorry, but as long as this kind of behavior continues, Democrats are going to lose support. The party is falling to pieces and losing credibility with the American public. I am not saying that the right hasn't done this in the past or that Replublicans have it all "together" just saying the Replubicans, for right now have been making more sense than the Democrats.

I see a big difference in making a statement based on the most accurate intelgence that the entire civilized world believes to be true including the most liberal countrys in Europe, and lying about getting nasty with some tramp in the oval office.

I don't see how that can be a politcal interpretation.

Looks like Cindy will have the charges dropped against her after all! The police stated that they should have not arrested her, but should have just escorted her from the building!

    Oh well... Ob-la-di!
