Bill gates......cool, now we can fight the war stictly by computer. Except, one a day or more, our planes, helicopters, and ships will crash at the worst possible time.

    Don't know much about Robert.

I personaly like Rumsfeld and I think he was a good Sec of Defense, but I understand the move. Rumsfeld was Target #2 for the Democratically controlled House, and all he had to look forward to for the next 2 years was a constant barrage of subpeonas and Committee testimony. It would have been almost impossible to be an effective Sec of Defense in that atmosphere.

BTW - Target #1 for the Democrats is, of course, President Bush.

Oh yeah, one other reason for replacing Cabinet level positions now. Senate approval will be easier to achieve now than it would be after the newly elected Senators come into office in January. It will be interesting to watch the Democrats and see if they try to stonewall any new appointments until after the January changes.

Which is why I don't agree with the move. Never give the Dems an inch. If the Democrats are for it........no matter what "it" is..........you can be sure it's bad for this country.

Liked Rumsfeld too. Think however the move is probably for the best. From what the news is saying of Gates and his experience with former presidents and the CIA, he should serve the country very well in that position.

I don't like giving the dems any inches but this was a good move. Rummy wasn't well liked by the generals.

If I were Bush, I would instruct Bill Gates to go in and just crush everything in his path. If civilians get killed because insurgents are hiding in their houses so WHAT. After about 25 houses are leveled the Iraqi people who are our friends during the day and planting roadside bombs in the evenings would start killing the insurgents themselves. Until they decide that peace is paramount, they won't govern themselves.

There is nothing more dangerous to the ENEMY than a true conservative in a time of war. There is nothing more dangerous to US than a true liberal in a time of war.

FDR was a liberal and he didn't do too bad during WWII.

True, but he was cut from a different bolt of cloth than today's liberals who believe that the U.S. is the root cause of all of the world's problems.

Texan, never a truer word has been spoken.

Back then there was a real bona fide love of this country among all politicians. They wanted this country to win at all costs...even over political party.

Today's liberals have done everything in their power to undermind our war effort. For the love of all that is good and holy, Osama Bin Laden voted for John Kerry with his video. We are at war with an enemy that is cunning, adaptive, and determined and our so called leaders are doing everything in their power to prevent us from fighting them. I pray to God that it was only because Bush was in office and that they aren't rooting for the enemy...but I doubt it.

I would say to Rummy, don't let the door hit you on the way out!! That being said, the next 2 years are going to be very interesting.
