    Default \"Worse\" than atheism-funny!

I can understand why some people choose to follow reason over Christ even though I might not agree with it. But to worship something of a George Lucas created fictional galaxy...that's just too much.

Jedi Knights demand Britain's fourth largest 'religion' receives recognition
Last updated at 11:25am on 16th November 2006

With their vast intergalactic knowledge and ability to harness the Force, the task of convincing UN officials to recognise their cause should be a walkover for a pair of Jedi Knights.

But self-proclaimed Jedis Umada and Yunyun, better known as John Wilkinson and Charlotte Law, have adopted a more conventional approach in their pursuit of recognition – delivering a protest letter.

The unconventional pair are calling for the UN to acknowlegde what has become Britain's fourth largest ‘religion’ with 390,000 followers.

The UN International Day of Tolerance, which takes place annually on November 16, is aimed at emphasising the dangers of intolerance and promoting integration and cohesion across the globe.

Umada, 27, and Yunyun, 24, both from London, want the day to be renamed the ‘Interstellar Day of Tolerance’ to reflect millions of people across the globe who have chosen to follow the Jedi code as a religion and truly reflect social diversity.

For the protest in Whitehall, the couple will wear full Jedi Knight robes and will be accompanied by a host of supporters including Star Wars favourite Chewbacca with a placard reading ‘Tolerance for Jedis’.

Umada and Yunyun said: ‘For the last ten years the United Nations has marked the International Day of Tolerance. While we support this important work, we feel the UN needs to move with the times.

‘Like the UN, the Jedi Knights are peacekeepers and we feel we have the basic right to express our religion through wearing our robes, and to be recognised by the national and international community.

‘We therefore are calling upon the United Nations Association to change November 16 to the UN Interstellar Day of Tolerance, to reflect the religious make-up of our twenty-first century civilisation.

‘Tolerance is about respecting difference where ever it lies, including other galaxies. Please don't exclude us from your important work. May the Force be with you.’

In the 2001 UK Census 390,000 people listed their religion as Jedi Knight making it the fourth biggest belief in the country.

There are also an estimated 70,000 Jedi knights in Australia, 53,000 in New Zealand and 20,000 in Canada.

The United Nations Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the UK's leading independent authority on the UN and a UK-wide grassroots membership organisation.

Although the association is independent of the United Nations, Yunyun and Umada hope the organisation will take on the case with the global peace-keeping body.

That is kind of funny Mark. Was a lot of trekkies back in the star track times, still are some. Never realized there were people really following the jedi code as a religion? Much less a half a million of them across the globe, that is kind of scary.

Man, I never realized just how many people live in a FANTASY world!

Wonder what George Lucas thinks about this?! Probably scratching his head!

I'm not sure how the atheists on this forum feel about this thread title, but I'm going to assume that a thread titled "Worse than Christianity" wouldn't recieve the best of feedback.

Marky, it sure is a good thing that you don't judge people with this title!!

Typical of people who claim to be so "devoted" and "christians"!

NO PERSON SHOULD judge other people by what that person believes??

After reading this post and other posts, it makes me a firmer believer in NOT being a believer because of how people are constantly judging other people and if you don't believe in christainty you are a lost soul!!

    What rubbish!!!!!

they arent saying that christianity is the only way, they are saying that to worship a character from a movie that has absolutely no chance of being real is a little wierd

Funny, how many are on the dark side of the force and will splinter off to their own group.

To try to draw some kind of conclusion about my views on atheism from the TITLE of a humorous post is kind of a stretch, don't you think!?!?

If I offended anyone with the title of this thread, that's just too bad. I DON'T apologize for what I wrote or how I titled the post. I'm only sorry that those offended lack a sense of humor.

Funny how I have never bashed an atheist here or anywhere that I can think of and I get jumped on for the title of a post that contains a funny article.

I have no problem if someone chooses to believe in the big bang, organic soup, etc. That's fine and dandy. However, the fact that a non-Christian can make statements FULL of vitriol torwards Christians while a Christian gets bashed for saying ANYTHING is something I am sick and tired of in society.

Of course, we're accused of being hypocrites if we get angry or defend ourselves--but I will stand my ground when I'm right. And about this, I am.

All i was claiming is I doubt you would find it humorous if Christianity was the refrence point for a questionable faith as you have labelled atheism. I was not attempthing to jump on you by any means and I'm sorry if my actions contradicted my intentions. The article did not mention atheism so I assumed that it was you who drew the parellel between athiesm and Jedi Knighthood. I am sorry if I did not communicate my thoughts clearly.

    Canadian Goose....

I would think it's logical to presume the following:

Christians think it is foolish to not believe.
Atheists think Christians are foolish to believe.

Many Christians, including myself, can understand why atheism would be appealing. Thinking natural phenomena created everything is NOT a ridciulous belief--and something reasonable people can understand.

However, I think Christians and atheists alike would find the idea of worshipping a George Lucas creation absolutely ridiculous. And that was my main point.

Point agreed.. and it was not your main point I was disputing but your means to that point.

That being said I think I should point out I'm not an atheist, but don't follow any formal religion.
