The immigration bill is dead....for now. My fear is that Hillary wins and the Dems pick up more seats in both House and Senate and then force a much worse bill down our throats.

I personally wrote my Senators and was brutal with them--when they were originally debating the bill and both had a hand in writing it. I was quite clear in my outrage over the fact that their solution is to change the label on the illegals so that on paper, no illegal immigrants exist. I called them on it and I explained to them that the 2006 elections weren't about Iraq.....the Iraq supporters by and large still support the war, despite some tactical errors we made. I explained to them that the reason they lost majority in 2006 was over illegal immigration and their refusal to do anything about it when the illegals clogged our city streets demonstrating and calling us racists. I was right.

For those paying attention, after the bill was revived and our Senators began debating the ammendments to the bill.....two Senators took to the floor and introduced a change that would remove the requirement that the illegals show the ID card they were required to possess as part of this bill. I am sure that had the bill passed, other Senators would have assured that the other requirements for the illegals (leave the country and get back in line, pay a fine, etc.) weren't enforced.

Now, both of my Senators were key votes that swung from YES to NO on this immigration bill. However, Chambliss..lost my vote forever based on the patronizing emails I received back from him. Now he wants to act like he was a champion against the bill all the while having written parts of it.

Here's the answer to illegal immigration:
1) Close the border completely and permanently
2) Impose fines on any business (small or large) of $100,000 per illegal found working for them. If the owner can't pay the fine, then they can serve 5 years in a prison per fine. That would shut down the illegal workforce completely and they would go home. They aren't here because they love America, they are here to send money home so that later they can go home and live a very wealthy life. Shut down their ability to make a living and they go home.
3) Deport each and every illegal alien you find when you find them.
4) Then, and only then, can we have a real discussion about liberalizing immigration so that the backlogs that make many cross the border illegally to begin with goes away. That way legally valid workers can come here and provide the labor we need.

I am sorry but the reality is that the illegals (at least in my area) don't mirror the stellar image of people looking for work because their Country has none. The reality is that my old home city is overrun by latino gangs, crime, drugs, and prostitution. It went to hadees overnight. You can't go to the hospital there because they treat the illegal population at that hospital and the illegals use it as a health clinic. The unskilled labor market that represents a lionshare of the illegal aliens use government benefits at a rate of 3 times their input.

The good news is that this has peeved off the Conservative base who now sees the Senate for what it is. My hope is that there is a backlash against every Senator that is inolved with this bill. McCain sold the base out along with any chance he had of winning in 2008.

One step at a time. I still do not see hillary winning, and can see the potential for voters getting further frustrated, leading them away from the liberals who made promises we all knew they would not keep.

My hopes are still that Fred Thompson will become the next president, which is looking more likely in my eyes.

Occasionally, the citizens will awaken from their stupor and react. First the Kelo decision by the Supreme Court and now this immigration bill. My hope is that still angered citizens will go after those responsible for this bill next year. I don't see immigration as a Republican or Democrat problem. Every homeowner who has had a couple families of landscapers move in next door and start parking their duelies on the lawn is affected by this. Cities where 200 illegals are lined up at the gas station looking for work has homes that lose value. I think the dems overplayed their hands on this one...thinking that only Republicans opposed this bill.

Like you, I want Thompson....the best choice out there. A conservative of almost the Reagan mold. He will also have high appeal in the Northeast and will sweep the Southeast.

Let's cross our fingers. I bet Hillary is throwing a fit....never expecting such strong opposition in Obama and Edwards. I think Gore will join in also.

You may very well be right there New. Been hearing rumors about Gore. Gore has the ability to defeat Clinton in my opinion even as a late comer. I do not think however that Gore has the ability to beat Thompson. Really in all honesty dont think Clinton does either.

Thompson and Giuliani look to be neck in neck in some polls currently, I think Thompson will handily take the lead before it is over with. Like you say, he is more of a true conservative, most certainly stands for more of what I believe in, and is in my opinion the most electable figure.

Some polls I have seen show Thompson leading everyone on all sides.

Rudy will fade as the debates start happening. Right now, he is riding a high of "no other candidates" and his 9/11 leadership. Once Thompson joins, I think you will see Rudy fade. He has way too much baggage with his personal life and will push too many single issue voters away (NRA, abortion foes, anti-gay foes). He is too socially liberal and the votes by Conservatives and single issue voters for no one or an independent will produce the Perot effect and help Clinton win.

I see Hillary winning, I don't think that she will be stopped. I have my personal religious beliefs regarding the end times which are too in depth to type here. But I firmly believe that a strong Capitalistic US is a detriment to things which must come to pass with regards to the EU and the middle east. A US that is weakened politically, economically, and morally by a socialistic society on the other hand will be much more in tune to go the way of the EU or be dominated by the EU. The rise of the EU, in my opinion, is the direct fulfillment of prophecy regarding the revived Roman Empire and is gaining steam fast. The EURO is quickly accelerating verses the dollar and is starting to replace more currencys among European nations. I believe that Britain is on the cusp of converting to Euros. I think that for the end times to happen, the entire world will transact in a single currency and I believe that currency will be that of the EU, the EURO. For these reasons and more, I think Hillary will win in 2008.

I will be utterly shocked if Hillary and Bill don't move back into the White House in early 2009.
