I asked that question to a friend of mine in the Air Force back in the 90's who was African-American. Basically he told me that when a fellow AA uses the "N" word, it is a sign of friendship, kind of like, "Hey Bro" or what have you. When a white person uses it, it harkens back to slave days and is a sign of hatred and bigotry. I kept quiet, because there really no way I could come up with a response that probably wouldn't have ticked him off and not kept me from being considered a racist.
And Jesus said unto him, "No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." Luke 9:62
