SNUBBING MICHAEL MOORE

Congratulations to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for getting this one right! The Academy snubbed Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" in this year's Oscar nominations. Moore reportedly withdrew the politically hostile film from contention in the documentary category not only because he planned to air it before the November elections (a disqualification under Academy rules), but also in the high hopes that it would be nominated for best-picture. Moore's hopes were dashed when the gamble backfired and the film was shut out across the board.

"Fahrenheit 9/11" is the latest revisionist "fantasy" film by Moore and, not surprisingly, follows the same recipe as his previous films--the absurdly inaccurate, irresponsible, and arrogant works "Bowling for Columbine," "Stupid White Men," and "Dude, Where's My Country?"

Commentator Mark Smith gives one possible explanation for the rejection: "Perhaps Hollywood decided, 'We don't want to be reminded of our bitter defeat in November (in the presidential election), and the best way to forget it is not to talk about Michael Moore at this year's Oscars."'

In commenting on Moore's being shut out from the nominations, the editorial writers at the Wall Street Journal noted that all members of the Academy would have recognized Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" as "sophomoric, meretricious filmmaking." The Journal also had this to say: "Ultimately, Mr. Moore's fatal misunderstanding was of Hollywood itself. To be nominated for an Academy Award, Mr. Moore has to win the election. You can say many things about Hollywood, but there is one Tinseltown verity that will never change: It doesn't reward losers."

Only 2 of those titles up there are movies, the last 2 mentioned are books, but hey, when you never see any of the movies like whoever wrote that piece obviously hasn't, it could be easy to get confused. Oddly enough, I guess he thought Roger and Me was a good movie, since he didn't lump it in with the rest, either that or he doesn't know it exists.

movies are movies, you may take them as you wish, but to me its just a piece of work and thats all, I dont believe much that i watch out the "WOOD", besides you could rent the movie from a local store and moore isnt going to a cent of that. I got forced into watching it with the women, dont believe a word of it but it is kinda funny. Did it deserve any awards heck no!!! I've seen far funnier movies this year, and comedy of the year is the only thing it could have won in, cuz thats all it is.

Thing about it is, that if you or I or anyone for that matter had enough money or backing to make and promote a "movie" such as moore has and had the publicity that moore has you could count on making money with it, even if it was garbage. People seem to be drawn to controversial subjects and the hype around those type "movies" will always draw large groups and moore is exploiting that. I guess I do kind of in a way give him credit for being smart enough to get himself in a position to make millions by exploiting the people that will buy his trash.

I think it's hilarious his bodyguard was arrested for having a concealed weapon and failing to declare it in NY. Now if Michael Moore is so much against guns, why does his body guard carry one... Throw Rosie into that mix also..
It's ok for them to have guns for protection or rather for someone else to have guns to protect them but not for regular people, people that aren't elite and rich like them.

You didn't get my point. Look at any post mentioning Michael Moore and you're sure to find a reply by Slugshooter claiming that the person who doesn't like him obviously hasn't seen his movies. I have no reason to see his movies, I know his agenda and I've seen enough interviews with him to know his movies have zero to offer me.
