    Default Not cool!!

Did anyone else think it was not cool when the rev (lower case) at the end criticised the white's "When white will get it right" He had good things to say for browns and reds and all other colors. Whats a brown or a red? I thought we were Americans?

I am done with the race thing....some who are complaining about race are the ones that are truly racist!!

    Just not cool

have yet to see or hear it, since I am at work. Chances are though it will never make the news. Just like the oath slip up. Had this been W, the media would have been ALL OVER IT

Sure don't want to knit pick, but I did hear the reverends speech and I can certainly see your point in what he said and how it was said. While I appreciate the freedoms of speech and I could understand most of what the man said, I really do not know what the point was in him saying what he did the way he said it in regards to the remark you quoted.

Yeah I heard it and I posted about it on my site...........It was rediculous and I am sick of the reverse racism here. Everyone loves to blame the white man but I was no slave owner, neither were my grandparents.......................When are we done paying for what our ancestors did? Funny thing is not one person there was ever a slave and nor will they every be but they sure do talk it up like they were affected by it.

I caught it, too. It is most unfortunate, but I think the racism issue will only increase as those who think they are entitled to the misgivings of the past are empowered to get even if you will.

You have to find it in the index. It won't let me straight link it.

WOW! Is he saying that blacks STILL have to sit in the back of the bus? I am assuming that "red man" is of TRUE Native American heritage? To me, the way "these" people live is of their doing. Everyone living in the US has the same oppurtunities to get ahead in life, some may just have to work harder than others.

Just imagine if a white Reverend had said that, what would people be saying about THAT!!

They wouldn't..................It would have been a riot!!!!!!! I would bet something like that would spark a riot that makes the LA riot look like disney land if a white man said it.

Was hoping to find a link to the actual video Mike, but have still come up empty. The way he said it probably should be heard in order to really get a good perspective, but the words(what he said) is what it is.

Seems to me that if we ever want to move past the past, those who keep bringing it up probably also need to move past it. Pretty sad really.

Here is a link to the Benediction

    http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=2718

    Transcript courtesy Federal News Service
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, thou who has brought us thus far along the way, thou who has by thy might led us into the light, keep us forever in the path, we pray, lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met thee, lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee. Shadowed beneath thy hand may we forever stand -- true to thee, O God, and true to our native land.
We truly give thanks for the glorious experience we've shared this day. We pray now, O Lord, for your blessing upon thy servant, Barack Obama, the 44th president of these United States, his family and his administration. He has come to this high office at a low moment in the national and, indeed, the global fiscal climate. But because we know you got the whole world in your hand, we pray for not only our nation, but for the community of nations. Our faith does not shrink, though pressed by the flood of mortal ills.
For we know that, Lord, you're able and you're willing to work through faithful leadership to restore stability, mend our brokenness, heal our wounds and deliver us from the exploitation of the poor or the least of these and from favoritism toward the rich, the elite of these.
We thank you for the empowering of thy servant, our 44th president, to inspire our nation to believe that, yes, we can work together to achieve a more perfect union. And while we have sown the seeds of greed -- the wind of greed and corruption, and even as we reap the whirlwind of social and economic disruption, we seek forgiveness and we come in a spirit of unity and solidarity to commit our support to our president by our willingness to make sacrifices, to respect your creation, to turn to each other and not on each other.
And now, Lord, in the complex arena of human relations, help us to make choices on the side of love, not hate; on the side of inclusion, not exclusion; tolerance, not intolerance.
And as we leave this mountaintop, help us to hold on to the spirit of fellowship and the oneness of our family. Let us take that power back to our homes, our workplaces, our churches, our temples, our mosques, or wherever we seek your will.
Bless President Barack, First Lady Michelle. Look over our little, angelic Sasha and Malia.
We go now to walk together, children, pledging that we won't get weary in the difficult days ahead. We know you will not leave us alone, with your hands of power and your heart of love.
Help us then, now, Lord, to work for that day when nation shall not lift up sword against nation, when tanks will be beaten into tractors, when every man and every woman shall sit under his or her own vine and fig tree, and none shall be afraid; when justice will roll down like waters and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around -- (laughter) -- when yellow will be mellow -- (laughter) -- when the red man can get ahead, man -- (laughter) -- and when white will embrace what is right.
Let all those who do justice and love mercy say amen.
    AUDIENCE: Amen!
    REV. LOWERY: Say amen --
    AUDIENCE: Amen!
    REV. LOWERY: -- and amen.
    AUDIENCE: Amen! (Cheers, applause.)
    END.

I am not going to lose any sleep over it. It has been that way with black America for a long time...Nothing changed

    Default Obama's Benediction

"...help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right." -Reverend Lowery

Are you freakin' kidding me? Can you imagine the backlash a white pastor, or any white man for that matter, would endure if he said these things? I'm not a racist man, not in the least. I was taught to love, no matter of color or creed, and I have tried my best to do that throughout my life. But it was hard for me to listen to that, all the while having to hear daily how whites are racist. But this guy can get up on a stage in front of millions of people and say that, and it's no "big deal"? It's a sad state that we live in people, very sad.

btw, USA Today said that the benediction was, and I quote, "impassioned". Seriously?
