Default Whatta you think of this?

I heard a little story my wifes nursing class was discussing yesterday.A 16 yr old girl was having a baby, the delievery was pretty rough and didnt go well.Because of this the baby was born healthy but had {cant remember the term}a lump on its head, it was like a big blood blister kind of that stuck out pretty bad.Anyway, it will eventually go away on its own.

So the babies about 3 weeks old and the mother has it at the supermarket with her grocery shopping.Someone in the store sees the mark on the babies head, calls the cops, and reports her for suspected child abuse. The cops and human services are waiting for her outside the store where they arrest her in public and haul her and the baby off.

thats pretty bad but it gets worse. The next 6 months are spent with her fighting a court case to keep her child.Even after shes found innocent the Department of human services keeps on her, supervising her while shes with the kid, unscheduled checks on the house, and things like that. The first year of the kids life the young mothers in constant fear of having her kid taken away because someone at the store stuck thier nose into her businuess with no idea what actually took place. And the legal system drug it out for 6 months, and the DHS drug it out even longer, and after she had been provehn innocent.

Shouldnt this have all ended as soon as the medical records were looked at or the doctor who did the delievery was spoken to?Just wondered what you all though, it isnt the first story like this Ive heard. How would you feel if you and your children were drug through this over a bump on the head?

I can understand a concerned person reporting something like that. That doesn't bother me at all, in fact, good for them .... BUT

It should absolutely never have made it to court and human services went way out of bounds as far as I'm concerned.
    Pretty stupid in my opinion.

Yup, as soon as someone saw teh doctor and or medical records it should have ended. Seems like they are setting themselves up to be sued for harassment.

I agree. As soon as the medical records revealed the problem, that should have been the end of it!

This whole legal system is going off the deep end!!!

Most certainly. Dont understand why it ever even went so far as to go to court . Children services is so screwed up.

I honestly think that many of them do not care at all about what is best for kids but they are just there to draw their check. We had our dealings with children services here when we had custody of my brother in law and of all the people we dealt with the only one that cared was an older black man. The two younger women on the case were more worried about their damned hair. The judge and our court appointed attorney was a freaking joke.

However the person who called being concerned was really doing the right thing. You just never can tell about people anymore.

If it is exactly as you say, an attorney should get incolved.

Norm, Im almost positive it happened just like I described it.It was part of my wifes OB training in nursing school and Im sure they dont make things like that up for the classroom.I just found the whole story rather disturbing.Things where the DHS get involved seem to get out of control pretty fast in some cases, Ive heard of people being falsely accused of child abuse but nothing like this where the DHS stayed involved after she was found innocent

No, I agree totally!!! I think it is absurd that they can ruins someones life over a mistake and will not let it go.

I understand that the woman was "trying" to look out for the welfare of the child, we need more people to do things like that, but, when it was proven that it was a medical condition and there was no abuse involved, that should have been the end of it.

That is just mind boggling to me that something like that could be drug out that long. I'd really like to know how the medical records were kept out of court that long.

Exactly why it DOESN'T take a village to raise a child as some will lead you to believe.

Think Norm is right, that if this womans rights were infringed upon after she was found to not be in any way endagering the child, that she has a heck of a case against the state.

Will have to ask my wife if she ever heard of anything like that when she was in nursing school. I know there are ethical and moral issues taught to the student and she had a book around here somewhere with simulated situations.
