Default How do you handle it?

I figure some of you guys might be in my situation. How do you handle it when you have a very close family member that goes on and on about how great Obama is and all of the wonderful things he is trying to do to help the country only to be thwarted by conservatives. They base all of their opinions on the information they get from the talking heads in the mainstream media. They are completly ignorant as to what is really going on in Washington and all they do is parrot back what they hear on TV from the news shows that fail to report any stories that are even slightly based on fact. I am so uncomfortable aroungd them, yet they are close family and I have to be with them. How should I handle this?

I have family and friends with political views from both extremes. I have learned to change the topic or just plain ignore anything they say especially with family. I will never base a relationship on politics or religion so I end up making some humorous replies that are not negative and move on.

Guess all you can do is attempt to give that person some factually supported reasons on where you see that they are wrong without telling them they are wrong. Give them an opportunity to open their eyes without looking like you are cramming your views on them. They will either be open to looking at the facts and they will open their eyes or they will be closed minded and will not be willing to accept the facts as they are.

If they choose not to look at the facts, there really is nothing more that you can do. Drop it and move on and opt not to discuss those political issues in the future to avoid squabbles.

My wife and I have different political views. We typically cancel each others vote out.

We were talking about the weather one day not too long ago, it has been unseasonably cool this summer around here. I said, "Yep, that dang global warming...." She walked out saying she refuses to talk politics with me.

My reply would be "Uh, don't the Democrats control the White House and both houses of Congress? How can the Republicans stop anything?"

I know it will only make your liberal relatives madder. But then again, the truth usually does upset liberals.

Much of my family is part of the slobering love affair with Obama. I've disowned my daughter and haven't spoken to her since the election. I can't believe she's that easily fooled. My mom has sinced become horrified with what's going on and I speak with her now. Because she contacted me.
Basically people that are that easily fooled and think we should serve government aren't worth being around. Probably not safe to be around either. They'll be helping put the handcuffs on you.

Just go with you natural instincts and everytime they gush about the President...throw up all over their carpeting. I bet they stop after 4-5 times. I am queasing just sitting here thinking about listening to that drivel.

I wouldn't part company with anyone based on politcal views either. They find my very lifestyle and beliefs appalling and want to eliminate them. When they get wound up and begin to tell you what they want to do it's downright scary. This isn't about political beliefs. It's about the dismantling and destruction of the constitution and christanity as we know it.

Don't even waste your time trying to enlighten a liberal with facts (or common sense). Factual & provable arguments just make them mad. If they were interested in the facts they wouldn't be liberals in the first place.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. They are the most closed minded people in the world and follow like sheep clinging to whatever they are told and never willing to question the logic (or lack ther of) of the things they believe in.

i simply ask them what obama did in his two years in the illinois state senate or the 2 years in the u.s. senate. what bill did he author, vote on, or what did he actually accomplish that gives you such a high opinion of him. remember, with 101 votes in the u.s. senate, he voted "present" 97 times. he did make the sole, yes single, yes vote on the bill to allow a botched late term abortion baby to die, 45 minutes after it was a breathing human being. the bill basically says you can kill a baby up to 6 months after it was born. only obama voted yes.

I like to fight fire with fire....Return the uncomfortable feeling to them in another light and then at the end tell them that's how they make you feel when they talk about politics....

Be weary of those who can move the masses when simple facts are contradictory. So many things that many conservatives have been saying have been comingto fruition. Many of the libs in my office have regreted their initial support of O. If it walks like a duck, etc. guess what! Its a duck! Czars with no checks and balance and ACORN. What are we thinking!
