Do the less expensive fryers do just as goos a job as the more expensive ones? Somebody told me the difference in price is the pot that comes with it. True???

I would mainly consider the size of the pot. When you dunk a turkey that oil splatters everywhere so a deeper pot is better.
Basically it's probably true with deep fryers as with everything else, "You get what you pay for."
Stainless steel is far and away the best but it's spendy.
You can get a really good fry kit from Wally world. It' comes with a 30 qt turkey fry pot, basket for boiling, turkey hanger and a smaller aluminum fry pot for fish etc. Some pots are higher grade aluminum, etc but they don't really matter that much when you're frying stuff, they work just fine. Take a look at the btu output of the burner, that helps to keep the oil at temp when dunking the turkey

Morrone and Bayou Classic also make good kits, you can find those at Lowe's and home depot and other outlets
My brother has a good grade heavy aluminum pot and I bought one with a cheaper grade pot. There is a world of difference in the way they cook. The heavier grade, quality aluminum pot is easier to control the temp and get a more consistent fry.
