I get $250 per day per person, 2 day minimum, for a fully guided quail hunt. I've had tips as high as $150 per day, but $25 per day is more normal. I'd say 10% is about average. But if the hunter has any dissatisfaction, he's under no obligation to tip anything.

I think it also depends on how hard the guide worked. I've tipped guides $100 when I didn't kill anything just because I know they tried. Been on other hunts where seen the guides get nothing from the hunters because they didn't do much or put much effort into it.

I wanted to "tip" Steve in CO after my elk...but he wouldn't take it. He busted his tail to help me...someday, somehow I'll show my thanks!

I'll 2nd what Greg said. I've been on one terrible hunt before and didn't tip them at all. Then I've tipped up to $300 for 6 days of hunting because the guide worked his tail off to put me on deer.

Usually my tips range somewhere around the $25/day range like TTID mentioned but I do like to reward a guide for putting in extra effort. They sure remember you then if you go back too.

just like in a restaurant, a tip is what you think the service is worth. i've left a penny before (yes, i remembered to tip and this is what i think the service was worth) and lots of money. i once got a $3,000.00 tip on a $3,000. hunt. and, i've gotten nothing. i've been on dozens of guided hunts and have left small to large tips. and a few nothings. . so, whatever you think your hunt is worth. overall, 10% is good.

gregg, i wasn't there for money. but thank you anyways. i should have sliced off a quarter of elk, though.... jeff won't be so lucky this year. i'm meat guiding...

10%-15% is the usual. But like the others have said, it you feel your guide went above and beyond his duty tip more. I recently went bowhunting elk in CO. I didn't harvest an elk but we were sure in them and my guide gave me 110%. Could not get anything within 60 yards, which I am comfortable shooting. I gave him a 10% tip, he deserved every penny of it.

I personally tip based on the experience I have with my guide ... I used to guide Pheasant hunting and would almost make more money that way then what the lodge would pay me.
Of course I ran 3 dogs and had a huge success with my clients but regardless the only thing I missed was the money lol ... got burned out on that after 3 years.

That reminds me I forgot to tip Steve B. I was having so much fun lol ....

I guess booking a hunt with him again next year will be his tip

when i hunt penned pheasants at the club i go to it depends on how many birds i buy and how good the dog and guide are . my usual tip is $100.00 and that for a $ 200.00 ( 10 ) bird hunt .

When me and my brother went on our guided whitetail hunt last year we became good friends with one of the other guides at the ranch. We actually spent evenings hanging out with him a couple of the nights. We discussed this with him and he said that he usually likes to see 10%, but also knows that some people save there money for a long time to be able to afford the hunt and a $20 tip means alot from those people also. We ended up tipping 15% because we had the best time of our lives.
