The Nightforce, or U.S. Optics is probably the best, clearest scope made today. They are not cheap by any means of the imagination.

The only drawback to the 30mm optics is the weight. Personally, I can not see spending the extra $ for a European scope that can be duplicated in performance by the Leupold Vari-X III. Go into a high end gun shop and compare the scopes yourself. What is brighter and clearer to one shooter may be different to another.

AJ, you've got that right...............while several of my friends swear by Leupold, and one loves his Nikons.....I found that the Burris Signature Series were by far the brightest and clearest to me.......I now have a 3-9X50 on my 7mm Ultra Mag and a 4-12X44 on my 22-250 and I love them. Clarity is not everything though. About 8 years ago I had a Bushnell Sportview that was the clearest scope I have looked through. It would not hold zero when mounted on my 30-06.

I have a custom 30mm Leupold Vari-X III 14-35x50. It is bright and clear but heavy. I have it on my benchrest/varmint gun.

I also have the Burris Black Diamond. It is a little bit darker than the Leupold and is very heavy, but it has been a very nice scope. Its mounted on my 338 Win Mag and has worked great.

I have lately been more inpressed with a scope that does not shift zero than the bright clear optics. I may get 5 minutes more shooting time with brand X at 3 times the price, but I hate tracking critters in the dark. I have Simmons 44 Mag scopes on a lot of my guns. They are a little darker, but I have not had any problem filling my tags every year. I am fairly picky about what I decide to shoot also.

I guess I'm a little cheap. I love my Tasco World Class. Clear, good brightness, and easy power adjuster.

I with ya Chrud, I own one Leupold vari. XII in stainless...although I love the scope and is very clear and bright, I can't see the 3X the price difference in my Tasco's.

I would most definately have to go with leupold. All most all of my rifles, muzzleloaders, ect. have leupolds, would not trade them for the world. But one other thing that makes a difference in the dawn and dusk hours, is the power of the scope, the lower the power the more light the scope will bring in.

Had the Leupold Vari-X 3 and gotta tell ya, my new Swarovski is brighter and clearer. Guess it's just a matter of opinion though.
Mine's a 3X12X50.

I have shot Nikons, Ziess, Leica, Bushnells, and Burris. At present my favorite is Burris Signiture Select (3-12x44). The Ziess Conquest works extremely well also, just a few hundred more. My Burris has good picture window from edge to edge. As for light transformation, I looked across the lake in Quebec at about 9pm and it looked like it was day light out in the scope.

OK, I'll play along.
It has to be these day/night vision scopes we bought used from the military for law enforcement use a couple of years ago. They have something like 120mm objectives and will show objects a half mile away clearly on a moonless night as long as there's not a solid cloud cover. I think they were originally mounted on some type of vehicle borne weapons, but if you don't mind the 15 or so pounds of extra weight, you could put one on the ol' 30-30.

i have tried them all and the buckmaster from nikon is a nice scope system and is clear as the day is and it light up a room for you. makes me happy igot one for my 308 and will get soemthign a bigger when i get to change out my nikon buckmaster 3x9x40 to a 4x12x50 . it will be even better for light transmission and will work better than the 3x9 and will hold the light a little better for the hunter who is shooting the rifle

I use both vrx3 and vrx 2 both fine scopes ,, also my girlfreind has a vx3 on her 270 bar, its a 1.75 by 6 power and 33mm bell, I used this scope last wisconsin gun season, and it was amazing the light gathering and clearness of this scope.
