    Default Deciding on new rifle

Guys I need some advice. I'm trying to decide on which rifle to buy. This (if the pic comes up) is the new Remington Model 700 LSS 50th anniversary .280. I love the way this gun looks and think that the .280 would be a great whitetail caliber. I've been calling dealerships trying to price one of these but nobody seems to be able to tell me a price. Have any of you all seen this rifle and if so, what's your opinion of it?

The other choice i'm comtemplating is buying a Pro-Hunter barrel for my Encore in either 7mm or 300 win mag. I can get this barrel for $272 and Natchez has a great deal on Nikon scopes right now and I can get a Monarch 5.5x14X44 for like 289.00 (Great deal). Throw in the Pro-Hunter forearm in RT hardwoods and I'll have just over $600.00 invested if I go the Encore route.

    What do you all think?

Hard to say for sure what I would do in your situation. The TC encores are nice, but personally I kind of like having whole ready to go guns without having to swap around barrels. That being said, if it was in the budget for me, I would likely go with the model 700.

Remingtons site used to list manufacturers suggested retail prices, I just went over there and saw this anniversary rifle, and saw that they no longer have the suggested retail prices for rifles. Sweet looking model 700 for sure.

The wholesale cost is 579 and you might be able to find it on Gunbroker.com for around that price. It is a great rifle and 280 is definitely a good cartridge.

I was able to get a price from a local dealer here. $800.00 plus tax which I think is WAY high. I've searched gun broker and gallery of guns and neither have the rifle. I'm going to call some other shops. $579.00 sounds about right to me as I was thinking it would be somewhere around $600.00. Oh well, decisions decisions.......

Dont really know if that price would be too high, check the msrp's here http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/MSRP/. While they dont have the anniversary edition gun listed on that link, they do have other lss model 700 rifles listed and they are up around a thousand dollars.

Incredible that you posted this. I haven't seen this post before but I just got off the phone with my local Remington rep about this exact same gun. I LOVE the styling & wood of this gun & the 280 is a fine calibur rifle for deer, elk mulies ect ect. My dealer told me it was 865 tax included but he didn't have the gun in stock nor did any of his suppliers. If you find it somewhere for a more reasonable price let me know. I love the model 700 & I really love the look of this rifle.

GO WITH THE 280 I'VE HUNTED WITH MINE FOR MANY YRS NEVER MISSES. SHOOTS LIKE A 30-06 IN CLOSE, 7MM MAG OUT FAR WITH 270 KICK AND FLAT SHOOTING. WITH OUT THE MAG FLINCH, A 1" FLINCH AT THE RANGE IS A MISSED OR WOUNDED ANIMAL IN THE WOODS. I'VE KILLED 600LB ELK AT 300+YDS TO 35LB COYOTE AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN, 1 SHOT NEVER A MISS. $800 IS A DEAL I'M GETTING ONE FOR CHRISTMAS $850 AT MY LOCAL DEALER. THESE GUNS ARE GOING TO GO FAST MY DEALER ALREADY HAS 7 ORDERS, MINES PAID FOR THANK GOD (AND MY WIFE WHO BOUGHT IT).

I agree with most above -buy the Remington if you can find it. I love Encores and have a couple and even have the 280 barrel but if I was not trying to skimp on funds I would go with the Remington - I also have several and they all shoot great and function great and the 280 in that guy would be a super deer cartridge and even do a good job on elk if needed. Bottom line is that the Remington should shoot circles around the Encore right out of the box.

I was in the very same boat, but ended up buying a Tika lite by Sako in a .308 last week. From all the reports I heard, this is one accurate rifle right out of the box, along with a very good trigger and clip feed magazine (which I prefer over a drop plate). Comes with a Matte Black composite stock and blued barrel.
While the Remingtons are a nice gun, their prices have climbed up higher than what I wanted to spend.
