    Default varmit gun

    recently purchased two new riffles.The first one was a browning 25-06 bought it for my wife nife riffle we both love it.Then i got the new mossberg 4x4 270 also nice riffle.Was target practiceing at an aquaintance house.When the 25-06 was brought out it was refferd to as a varmit gun,but they all couldn't take their hands off it.Are they both good for deer and big game such as elk and moose??????????

    Both the .270 and .25-06 are good calibers for deer. The .25-06 would be a bit small for elk or moose though. The .270 would be ok for elk, don't know about moose though.

    I had a 25-06 and it worked great on deer, I don't think I would try moose with it. They don't recommend anything smaller than 130 grain bullet weight for moose.
    The reason god created police officers, is because firefighters need heroes too.

    Moose hunting is pretty big up here, my uncle has killed many big moose with his .270, shooting 150gr bullets I believe. My great uncle and a few of the guys I deer hunt use their .308s for moose hunting too, no problem killing moose with that caliber either. It's all personal preference. I prefer taking the .300 Win Mag or .300 WSM with me while hunting 1000-1500lb animals.

    I've shot a few moose with my .270-they all ended up very dead.
