    Default BiRtHdAy PrEsEnT tO MySeLf......

Been doing alot of long range shooting as of late and finally decided to add a 308 Win to the stable as a birthday gift to myself.

I decided on an FNH A1 and topped it off with a Leupold Mark IV Illuminated 4.5x14. I loaded some 168 SMK's up along with Hodgdon Varget and shot it yesterday. So far I am pleased with the results but will have to do some tinkering to get the groups to tighten up. All the loads were the same other than the powder charges were in .5gr increments. So far the rifle is shooting consistantly 1/2 moa or better.

    The rifle.......

    The action.....

Four consectutive groups shot with Varget.....

Looks like it is going to be a great shooter!

You might want to try some IMR 4895 and see what you get for accuracy!

Nice looking rifle. Rifles sure do make great b-day gifts, even if you do have to buy them for yourself.

Yesterday I took it and shot at 500 yards with a couple of loads above. It didnt quite hold 1/2 moa as my groups went slightly over 3 inches. It took 10.25 moa from a 100yd zero to shoot spot on at 500 with the little 308 cartridge. The recoil is plesant due to the rifle weighing nearly 14 lbs. So far I am pleased with the way it's shooting and I know with tinkering with handloads it should get better.

    Thumbs up

Coles..... between the heavy contour barrel and Mc Millan stock it's a stout little package, looking at it , it doesnt appear t weigh as much as it does. The recoil is on the light side to say the least.

Thanks everyone, so far I am pleased with it, the FN isnt too finicky as far as loads, it has a 1 MOA accuracy and beats that by a good margin. The bore is chromed lined and I am impressed on how easy it is to clean.
Today I tried some loads using 168 SMK and a max load of Reloader 15 with good results. I didnt get to stretch the distance today but did get these groups at 100yds.

    looks like a great rifle.

I love shooting long range .
308 is a good round to do it with.
As the barrel is broke in and you find the right round I'm sure that 500 yard group will come together much better But its still pretty good.
