    Default Best custom rifle makers?

Hey guys need a little advice here.

I've made up my mind that I want to purchase a custom rifle fit for JUST ME! I've put a little money away & like the younger generation likes to pimp their rides cars/trucks me being a gun lover I want to pimp a custom rifle.

I've alread decided on the caliber 300 wsm. I've been looking around online & I'm confused. You have the Weatherby custom shop wich has some beautiful guns. The Remington custom shop, the Kimber8400, Browning & a few other places. It can make a man pretty confused. I wonder if the custom shops at Remington & Weatherby really give their rifles custom detail since they are such large manufactures? I'm willing to spend between 1400-3k for a rifle that fits my tastes & of course my eye. So does anyone have any recomendations?

And oh yeah, I know Kenny Jarrett of Jarrett rifles is located here in SC, but I can't afford to pay Kenny what he wants. His budget 300 rifles start at 5,400 bucks.

I would get a Rem 700 in whatever barrel configuration you wanted and the have someone work it and put a Mcmillan stock fitted just for you. Take a precision rifle class also, training is more important than gear.

If you are wanting a wood stocked rifle, one that has impecable fit and finish and are shooters right from the box, look no further than Cooper Firearms of Montana. At this time their repeater is only availble in the 06 size family. I have a handfull of em and they are truly a fine production rifle. They offer many upgrades such as wood, color case hardening, inleted sling swivels, engraving, checkering,Neidner butt plates etc.

    Default David Sams

You should check out David Sams, I think he is fantastic and builds a very high quality product for the $$ charged. He specializes in MOA match rifles but will build whatever you want based on any action you choose. Google Sams custom gun works.

If you can, actually go to the gunsmith that will do the stock work or you may end up with a very accurate rifle that doesn't fit you any better than something you bought off the rack. You may want to let one do the metalwork and another do the stock. If it fits you well your offhand shooting will improve remarkably.

I'd call these guys, (Their number is at the bottom of their page)

    http://www.rifle-stocks.com/photo_gallery.htm

Ask them who they would recommend in the area near you to fit and install one of their stocks.

Whatever you do, I would base everything off of a Remington 700 action. I think most gunsmiths will tell you that the Remington action is their favorite.

I would also get a nice customed stock (like a thumbhole stock), fluted barrel, mercury packs in the butt to limit shock and a crisper pull on the trigger.

My brother did this a couple of years ago and his 7mm Mag feels like a .243.
