Thompson/Center Encore

I'm thinking of maybe getting one of these in the future. I usually only get one shot while rifle hunting, plus, I still have my bolt gun for drives if necessary.

Anyone have any experience on this gun? I really like the Realtree Hardwoods HD stock and stainless barrel.

don't know much about them besides seeing how well they work for the boys on team realtree.i'd love to own one but man are they expensive.i'd like the 50 cal and mabye the .280 or 7mm-08.i priced one at a dealer in Quebec and it was just under $1000.too much for my blood or should i say my income.lol

I just have the Encore muzzloader, but if I'm not mistaken, the Realtree guys use it in the .280 cal.

A few people have told me that a full outfit, meaning full stock and barrel, are usually about $600, with extra barrels being about $300. I know I'd rather spend $300 for an extra barrel, like a .22-250, than $600 or $700 for a whole new gun.

I have the encore in 50 cal muzzleloader stainless synthetic and also have a 223 barell and 16.5" 284 win barrel that makes a nice little woods carbine. I also have another custom shop handgun in 35 whelen. I love them all and they all shoot real well. A couple friends have the 50 cal mz and the 308 barrell and are extremely happy. The fact that you can change the barrels around make them ultimately versatile. With a single frame, a mz forend and rifle forend with rifle buttstock you can acqquire barrels to hunt anything in the world from varmints to grizzlies and african game with the new 375H&h barrel. Most of the barrels in standard and magnum calibers can be had for $200-$250. Versatility is the key and they all shoot good enough for most hunting situations.

One thing to keep in mind is typically the Encore guns are registered as handguns. Since the action is same as the handgun, most dealers will register it as a handgun. This is true even with the muzzleloader version. I don't remember if you are 21 yet, but typically, that will be in the way of you purchasing an Encore.

Just a little more on this, in Mi. my Encore muzzleloader was registered as a rifle, and I paid about $500 for it, and the extra rifle barrels are around $230.I realize that different states, different rules

Technically, it can not legally be converted to a handgun in that case. Physically, it can but technically it has to be re-registered as a handgun to make it so. To do that, it takes a lot of paperwork to convert a rifle into a handgun. State laws do not mean squat on this this is federal. I know its stupid, but thats the law. Thats why many dealers sell them as handguns.

I bought one, a 209x50 in ss & realtree hw. If i had to do it over again, i would have gotten the blue w/ walnut stock & forend. Reasion, price. the sst in pricy. The gun shoots unbleavble, at 100 yards i'm getting a 3 shot group about the size of a 50 cent peace.
I just got the 7mm-08 24" barrel for it, plan on using it for caribou in the fall.
I'm truly happy with mine. you will not be disapointed if you buy one. you will find your self grabing it insted of other guns you have to take out in the field. i do, not once did i use my 12ga. deer gun this year. I took the 209x50.

Man, you should check around, I think I payed somewhere around $650 for mine brand spankin' new. I love it! I have the .50 cal muzzleloader, .270 rifle barrel and the shotgun turkey barrel. You can get one for well under $1000, just keep calling and looking. Good luck and Merry CHRISTmas

Just remember that when you buy a rifle or shotgun barrell you have to also buy the forend that goes with it. They say "New gun in under 2 minutes". Not quite but faster and less expensive than going out and buying brand new gun

I like the looks of them & have considered getting the ML......BUT MAN ARE THE $$$$$$$$! I'll have to pass this year.
