Shed Hunting Dogs

I've read a ton of articles and heard a lot of stories on shed hunting dogs and how dogs can retrieve sheds. Through these stories, i have realized that most of the time it is a labrador retriever. Well, i had to do it. Now, I have a new black lab that is 5 weeks old. Hopefully with some training this will work out. Not to mention shes pretty cute. Just wondering if anyone has a dog that finds sheds. I have a pretty good feeling this could be some fun.

I think it should be pretty easy to do with just about any scenting breed. I train police dogs for scent work on a wide variety of items. Just make sure that your dog doesn't start looking for your scent on the sheds only or strictly the human scent on the antlers your using if other people hide them for you. This is a very common mistake when training detector dogs. It is far easier to find fresh human scent than old shed scent..
