    Default Antler Trap.

This is the way I've always made my antler trap's, Hog fence seems to work good, the kind that has openings around 3x5" & is about 8' long. All you have to do is bend it into the shape of a "W," secure it with a few post & run some cord threw the middle (to knock the antlers off) put some corn in the "V" & that's it. Remember to check your local game laws on baiting/feeding!
    Good Luck, Phil B.

Saw this one at www.archerytalk.com. I would not use a feeder though, just put the corn close to all corners. Looks like it might work!!

    Phil,

Does that really work? I've never heard that before.

I've never heard of it either, but I guess in theory it should work. I usually start shed hunting right after the end of the New York deer season and spend most of my time searching through the thick bedding areas where I hunt. Over the years I've found some nice racks.

I wondering how high up you're supposed to tie the rope across that trap? The strand that is supposed to knock the antlers off.

And in that second setup....what knocks the antlers off in that one?

KTMMIKE, Yes, it works very well! I haven't made one for a couple years now though, they changed the baiting/feeding law here in Illinois because of CWD & the fear that it would spread threw the herd from them eating after each other!? I have picked up several nice sheds this way but, they don't always lose them right in the trap.. sometimes they will lose them coming to or going away from it on the trails. So, be sure to check the surrounding area!

beardsNspurs, I usually put the cord about 1/2 to 3/4 the way to the top, what really works good is bungy cord/tie down straps. It will give/streach when they lift/lower their head into it & you get the "rubber band" effect when one of their tines slips off & it hits their antler(s).
    Good Luck, Phil B.
