Nice sheds Cornfed and thats a sweet mount in the background as well.![]()
Here on Long Island I start looking immediately at the close of the January shotgun season and I usually do pretty well. I started seeing bucks that had dropped one antler about 2 weeks ago. Another place that I usually find alot of antlers is farm crop fields that I know the deer spend the nights feeding in.
We found sheds one year while late muzzleloader hunting in late Dec.
Last year I was shed hunting in the end of April and seen a couple bucks , one with both sides and several with half a rack still attached to thier heads.
I like to wait till the snows more or less gone before i start, makes the antlers easier to see and the walking a lot more enjoyable![]()
There are already a few on the ground here in Kansas, but I'm still seeing quite a few deer with both sides on. I think as soon as this round of ice and snow melts off and dries up a bit I'll be out. By the way, nice pics Cornfed!
I dunno that there is much to do wrong in shed hunting except maybe not look where the trails, feeding, and bedding areas are. Sometimes you find sheds, sometimes you don't. It sure isn't a consistent thing in my area to go out and finda shed every day. I usually don't start finding sheds till March/April when the snow is gone.
