    Default Fresh shed (photos)

On Tuesday I spent some time scouting for wintering bucks. I was really surprised to find this group of mule deer bucks had already started shedding, since the mule deer around here usually don't start shedding until March. The photo below is from a long ways off, but you might be able to make out that the group contained 2 full-racked, 2 half-racked, and 1 bald buck.

I watched them graze for a while, hoping other bucks would show up. I was glassing one of the half-racked bucks when he lifted up his head and dropped his remaining antler. Even though I had seen it drop, it still took me a while to locate the 63-inch antler.

That would really be cool to see one actually drop the antler. Awesome.

there is a picture in our school library of a bull elk. this is like a series of pictures. but neways the first shows the bull iwth both of his horns, the second shows him walking iwth him and the third shows he laid down then the fourth one showes him shaking his head and his horns are flying of throught the air. and this wasnt a small bull either. i would love to see that and pick em up. usually the only horns i find are the ones i get while our hunting and are all chewed up. i have one elk horn that went through mice and packrats and a forest fire and still looks pretty good. its even got orange fire retardant on it.
