Usually the big boys don't hang on to a half-rack very long. That's why most side-by-side set finds tend to be larger antlers. I'd say a 160-170 class whitetail would only have a day at the most between dropping both sides.

The small guys are a different story. I've been watching one small half-racked whitetail that has been carrying around only 1 side for more than a week now.

the big boy was still carring his left side today! To bad its 40 miles away and i will not get to check it out till next weekend, just do not want to walk in and serch and spook them if he has 1/2 still on his head, good thing is he is in the exact spot I have seen him at for 3 weekends now! If we do not get more snow or big melt this week I should be able to find him!I said 160-170 earlier, i am thinking bigger now after seeing him from 200 yards, his mas is awsome,I would say 6" allthe way through, g1-5" g2-10 g3-12, g4-8, beams are super long and width is abotu 22" , can't wait to find the monster sheds, only hting that worries me is i see the neighbor has put out a few bails to feed them and draw them into his posted stuff, not sure if eh wants the antlers or just being nice lol, I know he will not allow anyone on from talkign to the guys whos land he is on now!

They'll shed anywhere from the same time, to 2 days apart. We have scouted one this year that dropped them 40-48 hours apart. I was amazed. I have never heard of them hangin on that long.

I'm going to disagree a little bit here. I'd say it depends on the deer. This pic is 4 sheds from the deer I shot this year, the front 2 are a set I found 7 days apart. I kow he carried the one side for 7 days b/c I searched the area high and low every day until I found it.....about 50 yards from where the other one was. There was no way on earth I could have missed it 6 days in a row. It was a big shed, over 3lbs, 6 7/8" base. I am definately going to say it depends on the deer for sure.

MikeThompson, not retired, like you, I was was lucky to get in the last hour of daylight after work but I was obsessed and kept pounding the area when i got home each night, found it on the sunday, 7 days after the right side, near old boot prints, quad tracks, skidoo tracks etc.. I guarantee that shed wasn't missed by myself and others, it was carried that long.

I'm with Saskman.Same time or up to a week apart.Depending on conditions & the particular deer.I have found the match to a part deer over a mile away from the first one & a week apart.

Mike I know alst fall I spent prob 200+ hours pounding the bush, lots of time with my 2 daughters, ended up finding close to 200 sheds, most were becouse of a hard winter and the deer were herded really good, this year will be alot tougher inmy part,

In all the years of hunting sheds I've found a dozen or so.

In reading about other shed hunters in here, it seems to me, and I might be way off, but it seems to me the people that have the best luck in finding sheds have 2 things in common:

    #1--They walk their a$$ off,

and #2--They live in wide open spaces.

Seems to me the guys in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.--states that typically have larger wooded tracts have a tougher time finding sheds.

MikeThompson, that is unfortunate you cannot get access to land...it is really hard finding antlers in the bush, a lot are found in crop adjacent to bush and pasture land
