I have a variable size red dot on my 22 race gun. It can be set to 4, 8, 12 and 16 MOA. The 4 MOA is perfectly fine at 50 or even 100 yards. If you recall 1 MOA at 100 yards is pretty much 1". At 50 yards it is 1/2". A 4 MOA dot at 50 yards will cover 2". This is perfectly fine for shotgun distance accuracy. It will even be fine for deer sized game at 100 yards.
