Decent gun. I would have to see it shoot to give it a true rating.

Why do you hate it???![]()
trigger pulls hard and the scope is only 2.5 x
The scope is no reason to hate the gun, easy enough to change a scope. As for the trigger, I'm not sure what can be done with shotgun triggers. both my 870 slug guns have decent triggers though, so I never really thought about it.
You can have your gunsmith lower the trigger pull weight. This will run you about $50. The Mossberg 500 is a functional gun. Mechanically it is a solid gun and would rate 8.0 or better. Astetically on the other hand, it rates about a 3.0. Some have the feeling that life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun, while others realize that aqn ugly gun kills game as dead as a pretty gun does. Plus if it gets scratched, its not that big of a deal.
I rate it an "8 1/2"
Very Nice.

In my opinion a 2.5x fixed power scope is perfect for slug gun usage. How far are you planning to shoot anyway? With a fixed scope there is no chance that you leave the thing cranked up to 9x when a deer walks by at close range making it difficuly if not impossible to "find" it in the scope. Keep it simple...Don't believe the hype and advertising pushing all those high power variable scopes on you...They aren't necessary. I'd stick with the gun you have...It's a workhorse and will last a very long time.
i will be shooting about 130-170 yards, i hunt fields
Move closer.
