I'll assume you mean for a 12 guage:
    True Bore Dia. .729
    Cylinder Bore .000 - .729
    Skeet I .005 - .724
    Improved Cyl. .009 - .720
    Skeet II 0.12 - .717
    Modified 0.19 - .710
    Improved Mod. .025 - .704
    Full Choke .035 - .694
    Extra Full .040 - .689

No, I'm not as smart as AJ, I just looked it up.

    Here's the site:

    Choke Specs.

I'm not sure if that is standard for all makes or just certain ones. My turkey choke for my Rem. is .665 I believe.

All info is correct. There is no set standard for constriction equalling a certain choke. It all depends on bore diameter and how the choke is designed. There can be a few thousandths of difference between manufacturers but still get the same performance percentage wise.

This is what constriction Briley lists for their chokes:

    Cylinder .000"
    Diffusion .005"
    Skeet .005"
    Improved Cylinder .010"
    Lite Modified .015"
    Modified .020"
    Improved Modified .025"
    Lite Full .030"
    Full .035"
    Xtra Full .040"
Super Turkey (Straight Rifled) .665" diameter
    Turkey Hevi-Shot 12 ga. .675" diameter
Slug 12 ga. (Sabot - Twist Rifled) .720" diameter

    Trulock advertises:
    choke---constriction....pattern percentage in a 30" circle
    CYLINDER .000" 40% at 40 yds- 70% at 25 yds
    Skeet .005" 45 at 40 yds- 75 at 25 yds
    Improved Cylinder .010" 50 at 40 yds
    Skeet 2 [light mod] .015" 55 at 40 yds
    Modified .020" 60 at 40 yds
    Improved Modified .025" 65 at 40 yds
    Full .030" 70 at 40 yds
    Extra Full .040" 73 at 40 yds
    Turkey .045" + 75+ at 40 yds

You are shooting #3 steel for geese? WOW! Thats some small stuff for 40 yard performance. I shot BBB and T for geese and #2 for ducks. I used a modified choke and it was acceptable.

I'm not the biggest waterfowler, but #3's steel out to 40 yards for geese, even at the velocities you mention, and I do believe you will end up with a few cripples. Maybe step up to Tungsten or Hevi-shot? Or like AJ mentions, a bigger pellet.

AJ, for that range and game, I agree. Mod works well for the #2s but I open it up some more when I use the Ts, just works better for me that way.
