Default Remington 870 3\" shells in ejection port

I contacted remington already, but haven't gotten a response.

I can only fit one 3" sabot in the ejection port in my new 870 with slug barrel.

Is there a reason for this? I was told I could fit 2 3/4" or 3" rounds, but the gun doesn't allow it.

The rounds I am using are Federal Premium 12 gauge 3" magnum Sabot and I have tried Remington premier copper solid 12 gauge 3 " sabots with the same results.

Thats weird. Are you sure the plug isn't messed up?? That could be in wrong somehow, and keeping it to 1 shell instead of 2. Thats my only guess.

Thats normal. The ejection port is only supposed to have one at a time. Perhaps you mean the tubular magazine?

Sabot slugs with a rolled crimp can be longer than a standard folded crimp shell. I take it you can insert one but the second one goes in almost the entire way but not enough to latch in? If that is the case, you may have to trim the length of the plug.

Why do you have the plug in for deer hunting?

Some states mandate that shotguns have a capacity of no more than 3 shells. My state of Virginia is one of them.

Yes, the tubulary magazine... sorry for the error.

I put the plug in only because the guy at Galyans said Federal law stated I had to have the plug in. I haven't checked it myself - I haven't even shot the gun yet.

AJ, you are correct - the second one goes almost all the way but stops just short. I'll try trimming the plug.

Thanks so much - You're a genius as always.

Federal law for a shotgun to be plugged is only for migratory bird hunting.

Shotgun capacity requirements for upland, turkey, big game, vary by state. Check your regs.
