Yes, you can shoot rifled slugs. Depending how you gun shoots and how good of a shot you are. I'd say 75 easly.

Yes, you can shoot slugs out of that 20ga. I have one, lol. Bought it for my wife, shot it 2 or 3 times, been sitting for 2 yrs now. I'm looking at selling it, cause we don't use it. I also have like 25 slugs for it too.
I shot that gun 75yds, shoots good for the money.

Am i correct in the thinking that i can shoot a standard NON-SABOT slug?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes you are correct.

What is good guess on acuracy with OUT a scope?

[/ QUOTE ]

That depends on the shooters ability. It may shoot decent to 50 yards, maybe to 75 yards.

Gun season comes in on the 13 and i won't have time to try it before i hit the stand.

Then you should not be in the woods with it. If you can't be sure of your bullet placement, or where the gun is shooting, stay home!

Another question is about an "el-cheapo" walmart single shot 20ga smooth bore with NO choke. Will a standard slug go threw it ok?

[/ QUOTE ]

What gun are you talking about? Is it the NEF/H&R Pardner? They have a modified or full choke. I have not seen many smoothbore guns that don't have a choke.

don't take this the wrong way.....but if you don't have time to pattern your gun, do the deer a favor & stay home. go pattern the gun that day......we owe that much to the game we chase, ( a clean kill), not a wish & prayer.....but to answer your quest. you aways use rifled slugs in a smooth bore, sabots in a rifled barrel.

What happens if there is no range in your area or you don't have your own land to sight it in on. If I went by that I would never go hunting.

I have another question for you aj. my dad is real big on going the cheapest way possible as money just isnt that plenty full right now and he refuses to pay $8 for 5 sabot slugs when he can get 15 rifled slugs for $5. Now here comes the question. He has a fully rifled barrel on his rem 870. How much damage will he do to it by shooting rifled slugs through it? thanks for all your help aj.

Won't damage it a bit. Its perfectly safe to shoot foster type slugs in a rifled barrel. The barrel can foul quickly though. Lead buildup can/does affect the accuracy after a few shots. Clean the bore often and it will be good to go.

I've got a new Benelli Nova with just beads for sights that I took out about 2 weeks ago to pattern and "sight in". Turns out the way I shoot, I aimed about 6" low at 50 yards for that particular gun. After about 5 shots I was dead on target.

If I hadn't done that, I could have easily taken a 75 yard shot on a deer and severly wounded it without making a good kill shot. I don't know what life is areound there, but around here if you go into any gun shop, pawn shop or even the Wal-Mart sporting goods counter you can tell your sob story and find a place to sight in your gun.

I'm with the other guys on this one. I't would seem very unethical to me to take a gun out that you havn't fired.

Anyone have experience attempting to shoot 2.75 sabot from a Mossberg 835 (or any other 3.5 chambered shotgun) with a rifled barrel?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have the combo 835 (shot barrel and rifled barrel). Mine shoots 2 3/4" sabots just fine. Do not use the slugs sabots or rifled slugs in the smoothbore barrel.

My 835, using a cantilevered rifled slug barrel, shoots 3-4" groups at 100 yards with Remington 2.75" Coper Solid sabot slugs. Different barrels shoot differently and like different ammo. Find the best shooting stuff and stick with it. Granted 3-4" groups is not superb, but it will work just fine at slug distances.
