Needs Some Info.

Well I had this great idea just last night while cleaning my guns. Well I came to my ol' 870 20 ga youth express. I use it very little now and as a Run and gun turkey gun. Well I got this Idea to try some slugs through it. Its really light and short. Prolly would be a dream to use in a drive. I have pleanty of other choices like my 30/30 and SKS. But I'm just itchin to try sumthin new.

So i picked up some Winchester Super X 2 3/4 20 ga shells with a 3/4oz. slug. I have a modified choke but no IC. First am i set to hunt with a modified or do I need an IC. Second Could some one help me find some balistic charts.. i looked and cant find anything. I want there to be at least 900 ft.lbs of energy at 50 yards. <font color="orange"> Any help would be much appreciated. </font>

Have you tried winchester.com? They don't have charts, but they do have all the numbers.

You have more than enough energy with that load. the numbers are:

Velocity

Muzzle = 1600 fps
25 yards = 1420
50 yards = 1270
75 yards = 1150
100 yards = 1070

Energy

Muzzle = 1865 lb/ft
25 yards = 1465
50 yards = 1175
75 yards = 965
100 yards = 835

Trajectory

25 Yds = +0.3"
50 Yds = -0-
75 Yds = -1.6
100 Yds = -4.8

As long as they group ok, sure. There is no safety issue when using a modified or even a full choke. Typically the accuracy can suffer, but each gun is different. Try it and see how it does.

my son uses a 20ga. has done a great job on deer. try the federal classic rifled slugs, we got a 3" group with them. good luck
