Hi guys, got a call from my grandmother the other day and she said she saw a gun in her ceiling. went over there to get it down, It's an old double barrel that's stamped "Springfield model 511" then "Savage Arms" underneath. She says it was her fathers and that he bought it probably in the 1930's. Any one know anything about this model? considering how long it's been in her ceiling, it's not in that bad of shape. I'm taking it to the gunsmith later this week to see if i can get it working again.
    thanks,
    steven

savage arms had a bunch of differant SxS's back in the 50's-70's.

i used to have a savage fox b grade, simply put i think it was the same model you are talking about, Savage just used the fox name after Ansley died/sold of the rights......I have a couple of books on the subject, ill get back to ya.

I have an old black powder double barrell Harrington & Richardson that my grandfather gave me. He said the gun was made just after the 1900's? Its old real old ive had the gun for 12 yrs now and never fired it. It has the old swirl type barrell. Any1 have any idea of what the guns value is?

and i wouldnt recomend shooting it either that twist pattern is called dimascus and those gun s where proofed to a certain charge. Unless the proof marks remain (check the water table ) and you can re-produce that kind of round. I dont know much about harrington&richerdson guns, Most black powder SxS's where made pre-1900.

SWVASTALKER, There are just tooooo many Harrington & Richardson double barrel side-by-sides in my book to give you any information without more description of your gun.
I really doubt the gun is quite that old or it would be a muzzle loader.
Harrington & Richardson double barrels are not normally in the high dollar collectible range.
Most in my book show values between $35.-$60.-$80. range, plus a little more if it was a .410 ga.
Are you sure you can't find a model number or something more on it? Even a number 1 through 8 or 48, anything?
I'd be glad to help you put a value on this gun if I only knew what it is.
    Sorry. .....popgun
