Default Red Dot scopes and wing shooting?

I have an older Remington 870 pump 12 gauge I got originally for pheasant and grouse hunting, which spilled over into ducks once I moved back to VT..
It being the only shot gun I have I set it up for turkeys last spring.
I put a cheapo (Walmart) BSA Red Dot scope on it and REALLY love it and took 2 jakes.
But now I feel like I have just a turkey gun and still want to shoot wing too.
We shoot skeet during the summer but I have yet to give it a try so I have no clue on if it will work or not as is. (minus the full choke)
I assume with enough pratice I will be able to.
Just wondering how many wing shooters shoot with a Red Dot of some sort on their shot guns.
    Thanks.

I have shot a lot of skeet and I have never seen a scope on the range.
I would remove the scope for wingshooting.

It has no magnification and I know its kinda designed for it, just seems like it would be better without it. But I hate to remove it since it cost a bunch gettng it sigthed-in for turkey loads.
Not to mention the abuse my shoulder went threw.. Turkey loads are a bit heavier then skeet... LOL
    Thanks.
I am just gonna have to try and see....

Either remove it every year or buy a cheaper shotgun! You got to do, what you got to do!

VT, how is it mounted on your gun? If it is a saddle mount, it shouldn't change much at all. I haven't heard of anyone being able to use it for wing shooting.

I know guys that use red dot sights for registered trap, so I would not say it can't be done. If you shoot both eyes open and shoot correctly (eyes on target not beads), you can get used to it. If you shoot one eyed, its more of a hindrance.

I would remove it for wingshooting if you can only have one gun. A tip for sighting in for turkey hunting is to use field or target loads to zero the dot when it goes back on. Once it is zeroed, then shoot a magnum two to fine tune. It saves the shoulder and the wallet.

    I've tried it.
It's a pain in the butt and I wasn't very successful.

I would, also, vote for taking the scope off for wingshooting. Then just re-mount it in the spring. The sight-in process is really pretty simple, anyhow.
