Nope, you may have a gunsmith silver solder a new cantilever on for you but you would probably be farther ahead to sell your barrel and get a new one. Another option is to drill and tap a hole in the cantilever to put a screw in that will seat against the receiver. It will help some.

I don't know if newer barrels have a better mount or what. I didn't know they changed the cantilever design. The nice thing about the 870 is that a new part will fit a 45 year old 870. They are all pretty much the same. There was a long while when the receivers had the ejectors in different places for the magnums and regular 870 guns.

I dunno, I checked the Rem 870 extra barrel web page and they do not distinguish between any differences in cantilever. I checked the catalog and the web site and I do not see a different cantilever mount other than the weaver style. Was it made by Rem or is it an aftermarket barrel?

I bought a Rem 870 Mag, with a cantilever barrel, about 10 or 11 years ago. After buying the gun I realized that there are 2 different cantilever barrels. It seems the one I have which is longer, was replaced by a shorter sturdier cantilever.

On my factory Rem cantilever barrel. The cantilever starts 11 3/16 from the buisness end of the barrel. The over all length of the cantilever is 13 3/4. There is 9 1/8 inch of unsupported scope rail where the scope mounts that has just a rubber bumper underneath it.

If anyone has a newer 870 cantilever, you will easily see the difference. Take some measurments, and maybe a pic to compare them.

There is a huge diference in the 2 designs, and just by looking at them,( I haven't shot a gun with the new design cantilever) you can see the new design will be much sturdier. I want to upgrade my 870 to the newer design, but for the price of the barrel, I think i would rather buy a slug barrel for my Encore

That first pic is an early version of the Rem. cant. mount. They weren't all that sturdy as you might well imagine. They switched styles about 8-10 years ago if I remember correctly.

I have a 1100 with the new style cant. mount. It has proven to be very sturdy. I haven't had any problem with mine. It's been hunted hard.

My barrel is the same as gunnr's on my 11-87.
No problems here either.
