Remington Serial # info

Does anyone know a site, or a book, that has info on Remington serial numbers. I am interested in buying an older 20 guage 870 wingmaster from a friend, and was just trying to find out the age of the gun. Plus i was wondering if the gun might have come out of the custom shop, and it has very, very nice wood on it. I have seen a lot of 870 shotguns, but none with wood close to as nice as this one.

I have a book at home....
I can find out the Manufacture date from the serial # and model. Post the info here and I'll check it out.

Last night i wrote ther ser.# down on a piece of paper. I'll be darned if I can find it now...lol. I'll talk to my friend tomorrow and get the ser#.

By the way....

I have a set of wood stocks from an old Wingmaster.....

I have the high gloss with some VERY nice scroll work.....
I can't believe the guy wanted to swap to composites!!!

Oh well .... to each his own I guess!!!

The grain on the buttstock has a sunburst look to it. It is really nice. It is a lot lighter in colot than most Rem wood I have seen too.

Ok ...I know it's 2 months later, but I just found the piece of paper with the Ser.# for the 870. The serial # is 1236586X. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guy!
