Corretta Scott King's Funeral

Has anyone seen the news clip of the Rev. Joseph Lowery at King's funeral. He stood up there with President Bush behind him and said "We know now that there were no Weapons of Mass Destruction over there, but we do know that there are Weapons of Mis-Direction here."

Now, as most of you know, I am not George Bush's biggest fan, but that statement was totally uncalled for. People were there to honor this woman who strove for a peaceful end to racial inequality, and this guy is making political statements. Even my fiance, who dislikes Bush more than I do, said "That's just wrong." when she heard it on the news this morning.

I'm actually thinking of trying to find out how to send this guy a letter to let him know that I may be a democrat and not a big fan of Bush, his remarks were totally inappropriate.

I also heard that Jimmy Carter turned the political fire on during the funeral. I am at a loss as to what they were tring to do. I hope no one invites these guys to my funeral!!!

Yep, the good Reverend Lowery, President Carter and President Clinton all took swipes at President Bush. I just chalk it up to a lack of character on the part of those three.

It's a shame they had to sully the memory of such a fine person as Mrs. King.

Hey come on now - give 'em a little credit. I mean, if you can get that many people on welfare in a closed room and watching on television, you know you've got to do a little promotional 'politicking for the hand-out party.

Myself, I couldn't believe the amount of time and coverage Ms. King was afforded. To be real honest with you, she didn't do one **** thing but ride her husbands coat-tail for the past 40 years but by listening to all the hoopla you would have thought she herself had freed the slaves.....

Oh well, it's over and lets move on.

Just because she wasn't at the forefront and on TV every day like Jackson or Sharpton doesn't diminish the power of her message. She carried on her husbands work, which is not the work of Sharpton or Jackson. She probably accomplished more by being silent than any blow hard trying to get TV time ever could or did.

By the way PH, how do you feel about her being the first black to lie in state in the Georgia capitol?

Course you can add MLK himself to that list.

As far as Mrs. King – I think she could have gone a lot further than her husband ever dreamed of going if she wouldn’t have been so silent. I’m not advocating going off the deep end like Jackson or those types, there are ways to make your point without half the country thinking you’re an idiot.

Probably the same way I feel about anyone that hasn’t served their country or state. Lie in State has been reserved for those so-called “civil-servants” until recent years when it’s become more politically correct to allow persons that have stood for a cause to join the list. At this point in recent memory we’ve had King and Parks lie in state, that only opens the door to racism when you feel someone of a different color should have the same tribute and they are not afforded this honor…..would you not agree?

Then add yet another drain on tax dollars – I’m guessing we’ll get the final numbers on how many millions Georgians spent to bury Mrs. King.

As far as the King Center goes, the family is already petitioning to have the state take it over because they’ve run it into the ground and it’s in dis-repair from most accounts. My guess is the state will take it over and there’s a few more million added to the budget to staff and run and clean up.

Sadly there were quite a few comments made in poor taste at the womans funeral. I still cannot believe that the democrat representatives such as Bill Clinton made comments about politics and the possibility of his wife running for president at a funeral.
