It has been illegal since 1990 to kill an all-white or albino deer in Michigan, but there is no biological reason not to shoot one. The state Natural Resources Commission imposed the ban at the behest of the late Joe Mack, a powerful legislator from the Upper Peninsula. Mack asked for the no-shooting rule to placate a constituent, who was upset because someone killed a white deer he had been feeding. Mack’s district included Marquette County, where a number of semi-tame piebald, albino and white deer live in Presque Isle Park.

Cool that the dnr there listened and made a decicion that seems to be a good one. Far as I know it has been illegal to kill albino deer here for longer than I have been hunting. Have never seen a wild albino or even a wild piebald deer around here.

I never understood the protection of albino deer due to the fact that they are a genetic defect. I'm pretty sure it's legal in Ohio.

THE OUTDOOR PRESSROOM

Mich. DNR chief wants to end albino deer protection
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Director Rebecca Humphries wants to make it legal for hunters to kill albino deer during the state's whitetail deer season--reversing a ban that has been in effect since the early 1990s--on grounds that the protection is both an unreasonable burden on hunters and biologically unsound. In The Lansing State Journal.

The real story on the possible albino deer law.

Gaylord DNR Rally 4-5-08

I was able to talk with State Representatives, Tom Casperson and Kevin Elsenheimer. Kevin agreed to review my documentation and see what can do, to help. Tom Casperson agreed to contact Attorney General Mike Cox and see what he could do to get things investigated.
