I shoot in a conservation leauge club over the summer at makenzie 2d targers, they are pictures of game animals with the heart and lung area outlined. There are normally 30 or so of us that shot once weekly over the summer every thrusday. I noramlly finish in the top 3 each week. Im interested in trying to do 3d. What type of classes are there and what do i need to start. any help please???????????????

there are more classes than you can shake a stick at for 3D...but the most common are Bowhunter and Freestyle...
bowhunter is fixed pins and freestlye is moveable sight..

whatever gear your using now should be good as long as you can shoot well with it..the most important thing about 3d is estimating range .. you should get out and do a lot of range estimation to get used odd ranges..

a laser rangefinder is a great piece of equipment to have for this...that way you make your estimate and then use the range finder to see how far you are off..

other gear for 3D that is essential is a good pair of binoculars..IBO has a max power of 8X while ASA allows any power .. check out the IBO and ASA websites for amore info..

as it gets closer to spring and 3D season we will have a lot of info posted here on this subject.. right now everyone is shooting spot target ...

find a 3D shoot, tell them you want to shoot the novice class or that you are a beginner and let them put you on a stake you are comfortable with. Don't let peer pressure put you on the farthest stake away. When beginning, just go out and have fun, ask questions and have fun. You don't need alot of equipment starting out. Don't take it serious, have fun. Did I say have fun? All you need is your bow you want to shoot and arrows with field tips. Start simple and then later take some binos to see the scoring rings, and then worry about the other gadgets. My 1st 3D is in two weeks, but our state started this weekend.
