Average cost for shoulder mount

Just curious as to what everyone is paying, or chargeing for a shoulder mount of a whitetail. I just dropped ny first 6 pointer off, and the cost is $400. This guy does incredibe work, so I don't mind paying. Is that in the ballpark, or is that high? He told me 5 1/2 month turn around...that sound right? Thanks in advance guys.

he told me if it was 2 weeks later, it would probably be 8 months...he does them first come , first done.

The gy we go to has won lots of awards and does amazing work. He is $375 Canadian, so about $425 us. Teh downside is you will wait close to a year.

Usually it takes 6-12 months here...and costs from $500.00-$600.00.

I am paying $300 for a "competition" mount with septum and extra work. He does "regular" mounts for $250, both of which are tanned. There is one guy that does them for $195, but they are preserved hides.

Sounds about right to me and you can't complain about the turnaround time as far as I am concerned!

$150 from a guy I know at work real well who does it for fun just as something on the side. He does a real good job. But the guy that is doing my turkey mount charges $350 for deer.

I won't know until I get mine back, I guess. I imagine it's right in the $400 range. Around here (and probably anywhere else) you pretty much get what you pay for. The guy I use is the #1 overall taxidermist in the state of PA, as judged in the state competition. I'd just as soon toss a couple extra dollars to ensure I'm getting quality. I've seen some real crap come from a few locals. I don't care how cheap it was. It was poor work.

Last one I had done, I think I paid $275, that was the 2002-2003 season. His price went up every year, think he retired this year. He did pretty good work and was about the most reasonable for the quality of work he did. There are some around that do a little cheaper work than that, but you get what you pay for.

I got mine done last year, full shoulder, right semi sneak - $325 - back in 61 days!

Thats 62 days from the day it was killed, 2 days past the drying period! Perfecto!

61 days...wow...thats impressive!!! I was happy with 5 1/2 months.

You guys have me worried about the tanning vs dry presevatives. I never heard of this, thought they were all tanned. Had I known, I would have asked before i dropped the deer off. Probably a little late now.

I waited for 11 monthes for mine, but the amount of detail is incredible.......Flawless....Daves' mounts run about 500.......
