Mount the first one or not?

It's a personal choice. Being your first one, it would be a mount you could look at and cherish as your first turkey. I never got my first (and only) turkey I shot mounted, and I don't really regret it. Same with my first deer. But to each their own! Just don't forget showing us the pictures !!! i did not mount the first one either, i saved the tail beard and spurs and made a little something out of that. i guess it depends if you have the $300 to spend or not. hopefully someday i will shoot a truely impressive turkey to mount, but currently i have a deer at the taxidermist so it probably wont be this year either. not sure what the bird would have to have in my mind to go to the taxi. perhaps 25+lbs. 10 " + beard and minimum 1 1/2 " spurs. we shall see.

I think you will know the answer when you kill that first bird. I never did for myself but with my son's first duck and pheasant I had them mounted for him to relive the memories and now he is the mod for this forum.

I didn't get my 1st one mounted but a few yrs ago I shot a double bearded one which I thought was unique so I had it mounted.

I dont know. I shot my first turkey when i was 13 (3 years ago), it was 25 lbs. and had a 9 3/4" beard and my parents wouldnt let me get a mount. I lived through it, if i were you i would hold up for at least a bird with a 10" beard.
